dont think its a repost, anyway just stumbeled across this s4 on youtube and checked out the owners site. its an s4 that i presume was supposed to be taken to rs4 spec but he wanted more. anyway pics and vids:
says its a 996 turbo that hes racing...

Always loved that shape for some reason.
So what is the exact difference between S4 and RS4? They both have V8 engines. . .so I take it they are tuned differently?

those models were both 2.7 twin turbo.
rs4 and bigger turbos and different ecu, probably a few other bits aswell

The newer RS4 had a V8 Dean, the original (like the pic, sort of) has a 2.7 BiTurbo engine, the RS4 has a different map (amongst other things) so makes 375bhp instead of the 265 in the S4.

Robin - is there any difference between the two engines mechanically? or is it just the fact that the boost has been up'd on the RS4 version of the engine? - if so, i take it you could buy an S4 and get it to push 550brake without having to do an engine swap like he did?

Dunno Dom, I would assume there are differences, but it's basically the same engine.
Dahlback racing offer a 570bhp package for the S4, but the RS4 has one above that, with 625bhp
That would point towards some differences, but nothing major by the looks of things.

Just had a read, seems the RS4 has a cosworth head and uprated internals over the S4 and therefore can be tuned further than the S4 - which seem fair enough.
