im after some info on tuning the x16xe engine on the cheep,

im thinking about getting a 1.6 16v corsa sport, having searched around it seems that good mods to do that won't break the bank are change the inlet, 4-2-1 manifold and good exhaust system,

my main question is which inlet is recommended? for both performance and price, i've seen the dbilas for about £450 on the regal website, it claims gains of around 20bhp which i find a bit excessive for a manifold, i understand that mantzel have gone down the drain? theres the cheeper ebay ones which i read to avoid? but could I get one of those on the cheep and get it welded up to make it stronger? or are they made out of too thing a gauge metal?

also if i did get a performance inlet, in a year or 2's time if i decided to go down the throttle body route would the second hand value of the inlet almost get me my money back?

oh and one more thing, if you had about £2000 to spend on a new car what would you get? (thats £2000 just on buying a car not doing any mods)

id get the lexmaul inlet, i had one on mine and found it great, also speak to jr he has had lexmaul and manzel and prefered the lexmaul.

they also keep their value very well.

i wouldnt bother with an beay special.

Dbilas and Mantzel ones move the power up the revs, which is fine, but the torque also moves up a bit, so you have less at 2-3000rpm, but the figure is the same, just at 4k, if that makes sense.

The Lexmaul one keeps the torque, and gives you more at the top end.

Both work best with a remap as you get flatspots with the standard map.

Mantzel inlets are now made by Veltman, not Mantzel.

excellent stuff is it worth fitting a 4-2-1 and a decat with just an inlet?

what sort of cost is a remap?

Definitely, mine had a 4-2-1 Janspeed manifold, decat (and a full stainless system), enclosed air filter (viper), lexmaul and a remap and made 130bhp and 123 lb/ft.

Remap like mine would be £450+VAT, but it really is worth it.

i've got a viper in the shed doing nothing so for about £1500 i can see an extra 20bhp?

where can i get a lexmaul from as i can only find thier german website

For £1500 you'll be over 130bhp, you could afford some cams, vernier pullies and maybe headwork for that, which would see you closer to 145-150, if it's specced well.

really? I was pricing that up at £300-400 for the lexmaul £200 for the exhaust manifold, £300-400 for the rest of the exhaust and £500 for the remap, would have though that cams and verniers would be about £600-700 more? and then i'd need to run management as the standard cam pulley has a timing sensor doenst it? unless I got used parts rather than new.

Still can't find anywhere in the uk to buy a lexmaul inlet

I got a power graph of my x16xe with DBilas inlet, Janspeed Manifold, Magnex Exhaust inc de-cat ... With a re-map and higher rev limiter..

Sounds like wot ur after, i've done ??

It's a shit picture, the paper isn't yellow lol - if u cant see it, it made 141.1bhp / 7029 + 112lbft @ 5971

Lexmaul - £280-300
Janspeed manifold - £120
Dbilas Pullies - £150 ?
Newman Cams - £280 + VAT
Chip and map - £450 +VAT

That's an easy 140bhp, for £1400, and that's with buying a lot of stuff new, you could buy a second hand Janspeed manifold for £50-60, you might get lucky with the Lexmaul too.

You'll be wanting to raise the rev limit too, which means SBD rollers and ARP rod bolts

has it been mapped? that power graph is very very smooth for a mantzel inlet
