Hi,
Just in the process of cleaning the car, and unearthed a bottle of G3 Cutting compound in the shed. Whats the best way to use it? My bonnet is fucked paint wise, as is most of the car

, so what would be best for the whole car? Best technique, etc.

Use it like you'd use T-Cut. Just don't go mad with it.

Rotary polisher mate. By hand will make things far worse IMO as the polish will not break down properly.

I see, we have a rotary polisher, but its an utter cheap shite of a thing from woolworths

Wasnt even too sure on using t-cut, just dry the car, rub on, leave it to dry to a haze, buff off?

Going to have to do it by hand though, dont have the sort of polishing heads that they use. Anything will be better than it is now TBH

Best thing by hand mate is Autoglym Super Resin polish. Then apply a couple of coats of wax afterwards.

G3 by hand will be a bit of overkill mate. Will do more harm than good.

Wouldn't use G3 by hand, wouldn't use it for paint restoration either. It's far too coarse as it's meant for flatting back paint.

Wouldnt use G3 if you havent got any buffing experiance, as ed says its very coarse!

g3 is used for restoring paint

dont use it by hand as its very easy to rub thru the paint whilst doing it by hand if you concentrate on one spot too much

its not as corse as it used to be

i did g3 by hand once, but that was due to my machine getting wet and blowing up.

if done by hand be more gentle, but apply like a polish

3M Finesse-It is the stuff I was thinking about. It's what I used on my old car to get it looking better again

Well, I used some on the bonnet, then it started raining, so I left it. Made no difference to the bonnet, the paint is too fucked IMO, really needs resprayed.

Make sure the surface is soaking wet before applying the compound and always use a rotary polisher with G3. You can use G10 by hand as it's much less coarse.

Ill get some, but at the top of the bonnet, its not so bad, but all around the bottom is fucked, no shine at all, cant really describe it, all faded and buggered really.

Guy at Vauxhall used this by hand and removed a big ass scratch on the roof of my astra within a minute

Get a bodyshop to give the bonnet a mop, they'll do a better job and tell if it can be fixed.

I've used it to bring a pink Astra back to red and it works brilliantly.

I'll say again though, soak the panel before use.

Anyway, tried the G3 again on some other wee scrathes around the car and oh my fucking god, this shit is brilliant

Took out loads of little scratches on the passenger rear quarter, Im going to get a rotarty polisher head, can these be used on a grinder?

G10 is less abrasive than G3, 3M Finesse is just another manufacturers version of G3.
