Yeah they did!

Anytime we've played Liverpool their fans have been superb with us although it's well known there's a rapport between us i suppose. Looks to me like the actions a of a few idiots are tainting the full support though don't know how fair that is tbh.

Sounds like Uefa/Fifa trying to shift some of the bad atmosphere away from the Italians, they are utter scum when it comes to football supporters, disgusting bunch and the Turks.

I read this yesterday but didnt post it up as Im so mad about it I didnt think I'd take a few peoples comments too well

Its a complete joke TBH, its just UEFA trying once again to deflect the attention away from them and onto us due to the shite that they caused in Athens by picking a sub-standard venue. And by failing to take note of the multiple warnings Liverpool gave to them about the number of fans going without tickets, and the existance of fake tickets.

Granted I'll admit there will of been a few knobs there who might of caused some trouble when trying to get in, and maybe a little afterwards, but it certainly isnt to the scale that they are now trying to make out.

Im finding it hard to find ANY news stories over the last 6 years that show a serious incident happening due to Liverpool fans (i.e. trouble inside the ground, stabbings, motorbikes being thrown onto away fans, flares being thrown on the pitch, etc. etc.)

And lastly, its also strange that in the last 6 years UEFA have awarded Liverpool fans the 'Best Fans' titles twice

Dipshit, please stay out of a thread where you have fuck all knowledge of watching a team in Europe other than a quick trip over to a few small clubs last year.

mates went, said there was no trouble with milan fans. yet loads of liverpool fans were arrested. stop trying to make it sound like your being picked on. granted it may only be a select group out of the thousands but thats all it takes to ruin it. blame them rather than UEFA

Read my post dipshit, I said there were some knobs who no doubt caused trouble, as with ALL football games that ever happen. But start being a team that travels into the TOP LEVEL of Europe regularly and you'll feel a little hard done to when you come up against teams that stab and kill fans, and cause riots inside grounds when all the vast majority of your fans have done is take advantage of a shite set-up and walk through UN-POLICED and OPEN gates.

Our Official Response!

Rick Parry today responded to Uefa spokesman William Gaillard's scathing attack on the club's fans by insisting that his comments shouldn't be allowed to cloud over the real issue ahead of a meeting between the British government and Uefa this week.
"The shortcomings in the management of the situation in Athens were apparent to anyone who was there," insists Liverpool Chief Executive Rick Parry, "and these latest comments from Uefa should not deflect attention from that reality. What is most surprising about the latest comments from Mr Gaillard is that on the eve of the final, he quite rightly commented that Liverpool supporters 'have a tradition of good behaviour'.

"Let's not forget that these same supporters who Mr Gaillard is claiming are now the worst in Europe were praised by Uefa President Michel Platini after our semi-final victory against Chelsea only last month, commended for their behaviour in Istanbul in 2005 and actually honoured by Uefa at a gala dinner in Monte Carlo in 2001 as joint Supporters of the Years with Alves after the UEFA Cup final."

Richard Caborn, the British Sports Minister, is meeting Uefa President Michel Platini on Tuesday and top of the agenda is the problems that marred the Champions League final in Athens.

"I have a lot of sympathy with the Liverpool fans who paid their hard-earned money for genuine tickets but couldn't get into the ground," revealed Caborn, who is traveling to Brussels to meet Platini. "The reasons for this need an urgent explanation. We have already raised the matter with the Greek authorities through our embassy in Athens and government officials are also talking with UEFA. I will be putting this issue high on the agenda at a meeting I am to have with Michel Platini."

Of particular interest to Caborn will be why Liverpool's concerns prior to the final about fans safety and security measures to guard against overcrowding due to forged tickets were seemingly ignored by Uefa.

"To have a stadium with no counting system and no turnstiles is unforgivable for any standard of game, let alone a major final," explained Parry.

"We produced a report for Uefa a week beforehand predicting, sadly, all of the things that did go wrong. We told Uefa our intelligence suggested there were 5,000 forged tickets in existence. They knew and we knew that thousands of fans would travel without tickets and we stressed the need for a proper check at the outer cordon."

Already one Liverpool supporter is threatening to sue Uefa for compensation after being denied entry to the Olympic Stadium in Athens despite having a valid ticket. Paul Gregory, an architect and former Liverpool Football Club shareholder, paid £2,370 for flights, accommodation and tickets for the final and insists, in a letter sent to Platini, "I would like this to be reimbursed by Uefa.

"It's the least you can do for putting our lives at risk. If this is not forthcoming we intend to take action against Uefa through the British judicial system, and through the European Courts if necessary. It was only through good luck that Uefa avoided deaths."

They certainly changed their tune as soon as it comes down to a 'them or us' situation French fools

it's certainly very handy this report comes out after the fuck up of the final. How over the course of any amount of times can our fans be worse than 50% of italians who played how many games behind closed doors this season due to much worse incidents

Got a point there though.

You can say what you want about UEFA holding the game at a sub-standard venue, or there not being enough Police etc etc etc, simple fact is that if only people who had tickets had have travelled to the game, then there would have been no trouble at all.

Milan didnt even take up all their allocation of tickets, so there werent over 40-50,000 Milan fans there! Hence why they didnt have any trouble. We had about 25k (atleast) with genuine tickets which were all going through OUR area and through OUR gates (where the trouble was), they had less than 17k going through theres.

Any why shouldnt fans travel to Athens without tickets? Just being around the area would of been an amazing time, I have seen nothing like Istanbul/Athens the few nights before and the night of the game...amazing atmosphere.

The question is why did so many fans without tickets or with fake ones get past 4 ticket checks before they were outside the ground and able to try to get in....and why did the police just move away from the agtes and let EVERYONE in?

Also a point to take note of is the fact Liverpool have reached 2 finals in 3 seasons and have one of if not the largest travelling support, so they have had a lot more travelling fans than any other team in Europe recently.

More travelling fans = more incidents, go figure.
