I'm thinking about getting a 125cc to learn. Will only be used for pleasure and short trips.

Been looking at Aprillia RS's but kinda getting swayed toward a Trials/supermoto option?

Any recommendations, looking to spend £1500-£2000

iv done 4k in the last 5 months on my xr 125 honda. ok its a 4 stroke so its not as quick as the 2 strokes but it does 70 mph, dosnt use any oil and uses no petrol. I use the bike to get to work and treat it like shit, full throttle launch it from every set of lights, use it on trails and bridlepaths most weekends, i let all my mates use it who always crash it and the bike loves it. always starts first time, even in the cold.

I paid £1300 for it 5 months ago, its a 05 plate and had 2k on the clock. PLus only £15 a year to tax

On the road definately, will only be used to commute now and then and pootling about in the dry. Just want to get a bit more practice before doing my test. Only really ridden a bit before on off road trials bikes!

Mito has a gearbox made of chocolate, 7 speed is totally ridiculous and they look utter shit.

The new shape RS125 is gorgeous and has halogen headlights.

Ahh, i was gonna say get a scooter as they are much better. Not changing gears every tenth of a second

Dam, just chucked a mag out, theres some really nice little 125cc's knocking around now, not Aprillia, or Cagiva. Derbi and a few others have got some out for 07 that make the RS look quite plain and boring.

Have a look around, but tbh, i wouldn't buy a new 125, they just aint worth it.

Get yourself a right little pooper that you can have some mild fun on, learn the basics, then go for the full test.

Wouldn't have a trials bike for the road! no seat and standing all the tiem won't do anything for your knees. Enduro/MotorX isn't too bad tbh as a learner bike I'd get something like a Honda CG 125

I had an aprilia rs125 for about 3 years and it never let me down once! quick bikes and will top out at about 100mph. New pistin rings every 8k tho and cylinder ind piston at 16k. Easy job to do however.

Ive just bought one of these. Honda XL125 varadero. Great bike. Large bike looks. I found the likes of the CBR125 & Aprillia RS's to be a bit on the small side. The hyosung bikes are nice looking but they are a lot of trouble. A mates is constantly in for repair and recalls

the aprilia in theory can beat a civic type r to 60 mph, if you derestrict them you will also have the max of 33bhp that you are allowed till two years after your test, so you wont need too upgrade, i am assumng you are 17/18 when i say this. get an aprilia

not quite, the 250cc is about on par with a SS400.

4 strokes are reliable and don't throw their dummys out. They are no-where near as quick as a 2 stoke, but then you don't need to put as much oil as you do petrol in a 4 stroke.

Hoysung, its a new"ish" brand, but its very very budget. My SV650S was a budget Vee Twin, they do a replica cheaper version, its about £1k cheaper. You get what you pay for, a cheap motorcycle for cheap riding. Quality of parts, nuts, bolts, rust etc will show quickly.

Corsabadboy, They will have a maximum hp of 14bhp (around that), NOT 33bhp. Thats a full restricted license, and unless he's gone for that, he'll be on a CBT, which im sure he said he is, and that he want to get the full license later. L plates are on a v-max of 14bhp or 125cc, whichever the greater.

I looked at one of those Honda XL125 as a work hack, but they didn't have enough grunt and top end for the distance I do daily. Would have been dead cheap to run though.

What does a motoX/enduro need to be road legal, does it need indicators? Seen a few with no rear set, just a rear light and a tiny plate? Whats the legal requirements?
