Been offered a 1.8 8v sri engine out of a mk2 gte, complete with struts, driveshafts etc. Thinking about getting this for the corsa rather than a 1.4 8v mpi. Also, my mate has a 2.0 8v sri130 head and ecu, and if attached to the 1.8 would make it a 2.0 8v sri 130 engine which is always a possibility for more power

Whats your thought and opinions on this engine as I dont know much about it

The conversion kit for a corsa costs £365, is there a cheaper way of doing it cause the only thing really needed is the engine mount, use the struts and driveshafts from the donor car? Not too clued up on the conversion itself (what il need, the problems il come across)

attatching a 2.0 head wont make it a 2.0.
it will still have a 1.8 block therefore its still a 1.8
not 100% on this but surely the shafts from an astra would be a different length from a corsa shaft? someone correct me

Supposedly you can use a redtop head aswell, saw this mentioned in a post earlier this week as the blocks are similiar. Think the shafts are different which is why it may be best getting the conversion kit although I wasnt sure if there was another way round this

whittie is just saying the 2.0 will be more powerful without sacrificing front end weight.
tbh youd be better getting the conversion kit as you know it will fit ok.

Just put a 2.0 in there? If its more power you're after then theres your answer imo.

You dont see many 1.8 conversions on a corsa, and this is for a reason imo... same weight, as a redtop, less power, and same price

But... if you can get everything cheap, and the conversion kit a bit cheaper, then do it?

The sri130 head and ecu will set mke back £40 as thats what my mate bought it for and also the engine, struts, driveshafts, ecu and loom is costing me in the region of £50-£100. Saves me trying to look for a 1.4 8v mpi and also cheaper than a 2.0 xe conversion

I am after more power, but only something around 80 bhp as I would be happy with a 1.4 uv mpi

Astra shafts are longer lol

You will need 22 sline corsa gsi shafts with mk2 cavvy inner cvs

And it wont become a 2.0 with a 2.0 head lol as the block is only bored out to a an 1800 so will still be a 1.8

be different mertin, go ahead with what you got planned

1.8 block and 2.0 head,

you'll need corsa gsi shafts, the mk2 astra bodywork mount, you wont need any engine mounts as the mark2 astra ones are useable

if you dont have access to the astra try chris astley as you can buy the mounts seprate,

i find the conversion kits are a bit of a rip off, when you add up the price of the parts you actually need

Fair enough, thats your opinion. How many poeple on this site have declared engine conversions and all modifications? What copper is going to know anything about vauxhall engines? If it was a 16v under the bonnet there would be a noticeable difference and you could see that it wasnt an 8 valve engine

the 1.8v (depending what model) im pretty sure has the same power as the 2.0 8v.

If i remember correctly i was told its actually weasier to get power out of the 1.8 block than the 2 litre for some reason.

Theyre still good engines, people just dont like them that much cos 'they only have 115bhp' - i thin its pretty alright to be honest!

edit - how much you getting it for?
