Been thinking about leaving my job here at vauxhall to go be a tyre fitter at ATS. Basically the pay is better and i am bloody good at fitting tyres, especially on tricky split rims.
Views on this? Is it a step backwards?

You need to look at prospects from both. As it stands, it doesn't sound like you can go anywhere with the parts job?

In my eyes, the tyre fitting doens't have anywhere to go either.

The dealership i work for is a very small one outside aberystwyth. If i was at a larger one i'd get 20K a year and better prospects. Here in west wales im on minimum wage
Might as well get my hands dirty for a couple years and get my city and guilds.

I've done it, piss easy, but boring as fuck and you get covered in shit all day long. If you're working for ATS, it's only worth it if you get a van, and I think you have to be over 25 for them to do that.
I wouldn't do it again purely for the dullness (I'd imagine that if you're mobile, it's not as bad as if you're in a workshop all year round)

also there isnt much more fun than changing a 42' tractor tyre on a farm really, in the rain, and the mud, and removing a wheel covered in cow shit. its all good fun.

They'll train you up on the job, or send you on day courses if they come up. ATS are pretty good for that.
