the only time ive ever been repulsed by parts is at my local batchelors (vaux).
went in and said could ou order me in/have you got a c20ne 8v sump gasket.
ok sir what engine is that.
its the c20ne cavvy engine
ok. what size is that
2 litre
ok...........what car is it in?
.........a nova...
they dont make 2 litre nova's sir.
i know i put it in myself
oh. well i'll just look up nova askets for you.
no its a cavalier engine
oh......so its a nova cavalier?
At this point i turned around and went to the scrappy over the road. The guy was being serious. Havnt seen him since i think he was fired.

my local vaux parts department are useless. they keep asking me if my corsa 1.6 sport is an 8v or 16v.
VW are useless as well, they told me yesterday that there is no such thing as a polo 1.6 16v, when I told them about the polo gti they denied knowledge of it at first, they then told me that the polo gti engine didnt have valve stem oil seals

tbh most of the clowns these places get working in parts are the high school drop outs with no interest in cars or a desire to learn about cars, theres fuck all training & there more or less just left to get on with it.
I said most....im sure anyone on here working in parts does a smashing job

Only ever had one problem, with Vaux parts, and that was some new lad, I ordered a rear arch, went in the next day, picked it up, held it up to the car, it was a front arch
Went back, spoke to a different bloke, he asked who had served me, I described the lad, he just responded, what a surprise. He then told me it was 40 odd quid for the rear arch, so I went to the scrappys and got one for £3

I take it you dont have to deal with invoices/wrong parts/warranty/surcharges and work on your own... or in a large garage..
i aint a store man and would never be one

I do all of that for a family owned shop that takes about 180k a month with 3 people on parts, store manager, couple of till staff and a couple of guys doing performance stuff. I personally deal with retail customers and trade account holders as well as chasing payments when needed. All you need is a bit of experience and a good team and there is nothing difficult about it imo.

I've given vaux my chassis number before and they have still managed to give me the wrong parts. The thing is most of the monkeys working in parts dont just give you the wrong parts, they also say "well the computer says they're the right ones" repeatedly when you bring them back and tell them they arent the right parts!
