Come into some money recently and have got up to £25k to spend on a car. Looking for something usable (about 8k a year) but something flash!
Top of my list at the moment is a 996 Porsche 911
e.g - http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/239329.htm
Can't really think of any of cars that excite me? Any suggestions would be great - I'm not overly bothered about stunning performance, more interested in image and something quite flash.
Cheers.

For £25k you could get a pretty mint E46 M3. I'd go for that tbh. You may want to consider running costs though of any car worth £25k.
Might be better off spending about £18k (say on a new Astra VXR) then save the rest for maintenance and so on.
I would definitely look at Audi S3's as well.

I'm not sure I'd risk a 996 for £25k, surely that's the bottom end of the prices, which could be asking for trouble?
I'd go for an M3.

996 start at about 17k, can get a decent one for about 20 - 25k and an official porsche warranty for £1000 a year which will cover major problems. I've budget for running costs on top of the £25k. Really not interested in anything like a Astra VXR.

Even still, E46 M3.
If insurance isn't an issue and you're prepared in terms of maintenance, may be E39 M5. Or any 'S' Audi tbh.
I wouldn't looking to go for the best car you can get within your budget, but one that is going to be worth the £25k, if that makes sense.
I think the Porsche, on that sort of mileage and potentially how it has been driven, could be a nightmare.

I would look at a deposit for a house...
But if you have that sorted already then I would get a E46 M3
But bear in mind even on a M3 the major inspection II service on one costs around 1.1k at a dealer!!
So imagine what a porsche would cost to service!!

Yup, put the cash towards a house.
Do you have enough money/income to keep a 996/M3 on the road?
17k for a 996... show me
a 25k 996 is going to be a ropey'ish one. Beware.

Set of 4 tyres can cost nearly £1000 as well, if not more.
Because of the shite UK roads, they eat springs at about 17k miles.
The rears went in dads at about that, but about 1k miles apart. BMW said that is about the longevity of the springs.
Hence why I suggested something new at under £20k, then do what ever with the rest.

Sit on it for a lil while (or find/borrow another 5k) & get a Cayman 2.7, there about 30k now.

Gayman 2.7's arent that fast... I raced one down the M4 in an FRS and kept up nicely, the Porsche driver was less than impressed having a Ford keep up with him

Yeah, but you can't ever call an M3 dull in it's own right.

To be honest though, I had loads more fun driving a Focus RS than I did in the few M3s I test drove but everyone knows how much I love M3s!
