This may sound daft, is it possible to get the chatter out of a let engine without using an external wastegate? At the mo ive got an 8.1 litre intercooler to go on and am running a hybrid turbo unit, standard boost. Will it make any difference if i remove the dump valve to get that noise? Post any vids ..... you tube etc...

you dont want it, it makes the turbo less efficient and puts extra strain on it increasing wear.

iv heard of turbos shedding blades through turbo stall although thats very unlikely

Wastegate chatter myth
There is a common myth in the automotive world about so called "wastegate chatter" or "turbo flutter", a noise created on lifting off the throttle in a turbocharged car. The sound is commonly described as a chipmunk or a rattlesnake and is often stated incorrectly as being a result of the turbo's wastegate closing.

The noise is in fact the air compressed by the turbo passing back through the compressor wheel of the turbo after the airflow is abruptly halted by the throttle plate closing. However, in some cases, i.e. where it doesn't open fast enough or is set up to only react to high boost, some chatter will remain. Surge can occur on diesels when the turbo is attempting to pressurize the air at a higher pressure ratio than the compressor wheel can flow at a given speed. Diesels have no use for a Blow off Valve as they do not have a throttle.

The chatter noise is very noticeable on WRC Rally cars, where no BOV is allowed.

so in a nutshell, its best to run a dump valve to protect unneccessary wear to the turbo, the noise sounds nice but ive just had a turbo recon and the pain in the ass removing it and putting it back in! so think il stick with the dump valve noise.

does wrc not allow the in-built recirc valves?

i'd find it hard to believe that they're not allowed anything at all, just damages the turbo

No it will more than likely induce drag. It's not a very good thing to do really.
