Nikon D200 - I was trying out some old 80's lenses on it that I've got knocking around.
First image off the camera:

Loving the camera though - one of the best things i've ever bought I reckon. Well chuffed.

Im a freelance photographer anyways so lenses arent a problem, apart from the collection i've got already i'm going for a 18-200mm VRII, 10.5mm Fisheye and a 85mm f1.8 lense for portraiture. Thats on top of a 35-105mm f3.5 Macro, 50mm f1.4, 85mm f2.5, just 35mm lenses alone.
I normally shoot 1 of my Mamiya 645 Medium Format cameras and this is the first dSLR i've owned even though i've got a few digital cameras knocking around...

i just think dslr's are way more practical and if you buy past the moain market camera's they're really really good for more than hobby photography.
cant wait till my course starts. 3 years honours

The 10.5 is a VERY nice lens. I looked at the 18-200 aswel. The 70-200VR 2.8 is one of the best lenses ive used but expensive.
The 85mm, thats the 50mm lens used on Film SLRs yeah? For the money its quality, and amazingly sharp.
Good choices mate. Do you specialize in a specific area of photography then or just shoot whatever work comes your way?

I've been taking photos in various formats for 15 years now, don't think I will ever go to college coz I'd be going over old ground, I already know spectometry and dark/lightroom, chemicals, studio etc.
A guy I know in London - Perou, says that NVQ's and course tend to take students towards forensic and scientific photography. I'm pretty much self taught and kinda developed my own style, I read every book going about it though over about 7 years.

I looked at the 70-200 - maybe for xmas 85mm APS format is 110 in 35mm.
I do a lot of Travel photography, and music photography, i'm starting a portfolio on family photography too soon. I'll take anything on though.

No point going to college/uni IMO. Ive self taught myself as once you know the basics the rest just comes as you learn.
At my uni there is a photography course but some of their shots are terrible.

I would possibly go to Uni, but i'd have to give myself a good kick up the arse to get it sorted. Only for the marketing and opportunity side of things, not technical stuff.

Again, like perou said to me, read the books, re-read them, and then throw them away and do your own thing.

Sounds cool. I know you've done alot of travelling, one thing i really want to do with my camera, somewhere like Africa.
I do a bit of music photography too mate Aswel as shooting Motocross occasionally and Football.
Can't recommend the 70-200 highly enough. Focus is super quick and its pin sharp. Plus having 2.8 through the whole range is a massive bonus
Theres a few of my shots here, some using the 70-200:

and also my mate whos just got the 10.5mm.

Haha, the good thing with cameras is though you spend the money on the lenses etc but it can make you it back
It quite amazing how much it can rack up though. A nice lens here, few sb-800s there I only got into photography last year and think ive already spent a fair few grand on stuff

SB800 is already on my list. I've got about £5k sitting around now on gear. I love film still though, especially medium format - its hard to equal let alone beat.
