Just got into a massive (lasted over 2 hours) debate about 'climate change' with my house mate, which basically resulted in him accusing me of being a really bad person for having no cat on my car!

He did geography and now does a masters in environmental something or other... and he obviously feels strongly about it.

He basically had the opinion that taxing cars / drivers / etc was a good method of generating revenue to spend on solving the climate problem

At one point I thought we were gonna have a fight over it... Especially when he brought up my car polluting the world etc.

He's totally not a car person, infact he drives (when he has to) a 880cc Matiz.

He said why do I need a car in the state of tune as I have (I barely drive it at the mo anyway, so it's not polluting much) - I explained I used it for track days.

He said 'well you could drive a car like mine on track days' - I said 'no I couldn't, that would not be enjoyable' etc.

Basically ended up saying 'I do not NEED a car like mine' etc.

Fucking knackered now after arguing for so long. Anyone else come up against any 'ANTI CAR' people?

Explain to them that we'll all be dead by the time the world becomes uninhabitable, so why give a fuck now, when we don't have to deal with the effects?

I admitted I didn't 'need' a car like mine...

but he doesn't 'need' to watch tv, yet still does? etc

I barely drive my car at the moment, so he's polluting more with his matiz, as he has to drive to oxford twice a week.

Climate change is a natural occurance on earth.....exhaust fumes contribute a tiny tiny marginal part of it.

Also the ozone layer is reparing itself

There ive made more sense in 2 minutes than your flatmate in 2 hrs

This is what I was saying initially ... Where's your proof that it's my car's emissions causing it.

I also said why can't the temp go up and down naturally? like time of romans, vine street in london had vines growing there. So the climate was far hotter than it is now.

He just said 'yeh but that happened over long periods of time, not rising 1.5 degree's C in 10 years'.

FLOL

Aren't the USA and China responsible for 95%+ of greenhouse/global warming/climate change gases?

One small car in the entire world is going to make a whole load of difference....

tell your mate to cull all cows and douse all the volcanos in the world and see what he says about that.

and now does a masters in environmental something

Sums him up really

i agree that all this trying to make driving expensive scheme the govt keeps trying to claim is for environmental reasons is not the way to solve pollution problems etc.

and the money doesn't go towards solutions for helping the environment

His Argument to the fact China has most pollution, is the fact that WE shipped all our industry to china, so what do you expect? - The fact is, most of our stuff is made in china... so obviously they'll be pollution there instead of here.

I gave a girl from work a lift home once. She spent the entire way lecturing me about the evils of the motor car, and how she doesn't drive and never will etc. Cheeky mare, I was giving her a lift home; she can walk next time it's 10pm on a cold December night!

The world managed to go through an ice age and back again - I'll believe the hype when someone shows me proof that the Earth wouldn't have heated up on it's own and that it's not going to go down again at some point in the future.
