people are just panicing before xmas, Nintendo will be holding them back to create a buzz about them, make them wanted, and then release more than enought to fulfill demand.

Doubt it, classic trick to get consumers going crazy for their product.

its xmas, they'll rise normally around this time.
Its a fav ploy for years by companies to limit products just before xmas, why do you think their is always a massive demand for products that 'arent available' yet amazingly just before xmas they find new stock and people rush out in their 1000's and buy them all.

Naa nintendo just aren't making enough, haven't been since it was released.
They are realeasing one with dvd playback but cna't start manufacturing because they can't stop production of the current one.

sainsburys here are getting about 12 throughout the week, but they're not even getting a chance to hit the shelves, as employees are putting their names down for them for friends and family

They would The people who wanted one will always want one, and when one comes available will jump on the chance. Others who werent really specifically after a Wii will see it selling out and then think its the best thing in the world so will also try to buy one.
Companies have done it for years and years just before xmas, its the easiest way to make their product the 'must thing' that year.

i work and deal with quite alot of manufacturing of such products and understand the process of the factories producing the goods etc.
i think its a ploy to get the console always in demand, if it wasnt then people would lose interest, product loses hype and thus no-ones buys them.
theyve been out a year now and your telling me a company as large as nintendo which is based in asia and where the factories that make them are based cant make enough wiis if they wnted to lol the could make millions of these a year quite easily yet dont!
