0 psi?
its quite hard to have 0 psi. was the engine running or turning over by hand?

0 Psi would indicate valve issues.

even with a valve stuck open and the throttle body closed you would get more than 0 psi.

0 PSi would indicate a hole in the block
Does seem strange to go at 2 & 4

Colin - Why?
Valves could be bent etc...
If it was a fire ring HG failure you'd exepect it to go acros 1-2 2-3 3-4

No it doesn't run. It overheated, and the water boiled, was off the temp gauge. There's oil still in it, and plenty of water. Still not sure why it overheated, possibly the water pump. The fuse on the fan has blown but wouldn't of made any difference to be fair. I'm posting from my phone so sorry for short reply.

sounds like the water pump and i reckon you've bent several valves due to this.

to accurately measure compression using a 'normal' compression tester the engine should be running. if its not running then the results cant be relied on in any way.
to test compression on a non running engine you must use a 'leakdown' tester kit. this will determine a percentage of leakage by pressurising each cylinder at various stages of the pistons 4 stroke cycle and determining where the pressure is leaking from and why.

My mum managed to get 0-0-25-75, a few years back, in a BMW 316, took the head off, hole in piston 1 and head melted, head melted on 2 with a chunk missing, 3 and 4 didn't have anything obvious, but probably melted slightly there too
Proper job

Can't do LET yet as the car i'm getting the engine from is still taxed , mot'd and insured. Come february I could have the engine.
Engine is been looked at tonight... expecting bent valves, but we'll see what happens, think my whole engine has melted
