im getting really stupid low mpg in my 1.2 8v.im putting £20 almost every week and only getting around 70miles out of it if that .i went to my local garage and they said i will use quite a more petrol in the winter because of haveing the heaters on most of the time and with the price of petrol these days.
im sure there is something wrong somewhere too.i only do short journeys around the streets to work and back ect neva on long journeys
what can it be?

Still, £20 to 70 miles still isn't right tbh. Short journeys also don't help fuel economy however.
Used to get about 250 miles to a tank in my girlfriends car, driving it around town. Worked a full 6 days, about 25 miles away each way one week. Got to 300 miles and had just before the red left
I do on average 300 miles to £32 in my Corsa (12v) before I need to think about filling up.
When was it last serviced?

My 1.2 8v used to get 180 to 36 quid and that was driving really carefully !
So tbh i think you need a service however don't expecrt much better.

it had an oil change, spark plugs, air filter, oil filter 3-4 weeks ago but it started about 4-5 weeks before the service.
i am saving up for a new car at the minute because im want something with a bit quicker but im unsure what to do because if im getting that kind of mpg in my 1.2 what is a bigger engine gonna be like?

a bigger engine will be better on petrol suprisingly. no need to be right foot happy to get anywhere. i used to be able to get about 45 miles max out of my 1.2 to £10 but the GSI i used to be able to do 70+

id love to get the 1.8 sri but i think that will be a bit thirsty.

It might be yes, but i still think theres an issue with your 1.2 8v. I used to drive a 1.4 8v corsa, and while this is better, it was still only 60bhp. With that i could average 48mpg on the motorway and managed 435 miles before the fuel light came on.
If you are thinking about buying a corsa C then i'd recommend one of the CDTI engines. My 1.7 CDTI has tons of torque so it feels quick, and still manages to dispatch 60 just as quick as the 1.4 16v, even with the longer box. Plus with a £250 tuning box you'll be running 120bhp out of the 1.7 CDTI. On top of all that it manages 58mpg even when using the air con on a hot day.
Even if you dont have the money for the 1.7, the 1.3 CDTI isnt bad once tuned, you can expect 90-95bhp after a tuning box, and upwards of (and over) 60mpg.

When I owned a 1.2 8v Corsa many years ago it was awesome on fuel if you drove it sensible used to cost around 10p a mile. My 1.4 16V sport was also very good on fuel, think I had 390 miles out of a tank( was a long journey mind) but it used to sip fuel even when giving it some. The cars Ive had since have all been pretty poor on fuel, the 205 GTi was the worst, followed by the VTS and 206 GTi.
