I was moving a dell poweredge earlier, and i noticed on the box it was 56kgs, bloody heavy thing.

Anyway whilst i was lugging it along i got thinking as to what the hell is in them that makes it so bloody heavy, a couple of power supplies, maybe a kilo or two each, a motherboard, processor fans etc, all weigh next to nothing!

The casing on the Dells it quite substantial we have quite a few poweredges in work. They are a pain to shift into new racks.

our two power edges are 25kg each (just the baby 1800's)

Most of the weight does seem to be in the case,

bit of an open statement Willay, usually the make of server is just personal preference, where I work they prefer HP, but id be perfectly happy sticking a dell in.

In all fairness there really is no comparison between the build quality of Dell and HP servers.

If you think 56kgs is heavy though, you should try moving some enterprise-grade hardware!
