Just curious has it been done before?

Wonder what sort of power you could expect from a TB'd 1.8 SRI

i think stavs was talking about this the other day. Engine mods for the C are quite expensie, most people seem to go straight for the Z20LET

a tb'd 1.8 sri engine will make as much power as your wallet wants it to. 260+ bhp and 160+ ft/lb

Isn't it the age old storey like the 1.6 Corsa B, or C20XE it? Cost more to modify the 1.6, but you get similar power to a C20XE - but you might as well start with more power to begin with.

power isnt everything though. I would have my 200bhp lightweight 1.6 over a 400bhp heavy old LET engine anyday.

and the z18xe IS the best engine vaux have made ever IMO. The c20xe is a very old, dated engine and in the next 2-3 years the 1.8 is going to get far more popular.

I was thinking this too was trying yo justify spending large amounts on the c20xe conversion when like you say come next year everone will be like ohhh just another 2.0 B

More info?

Wonder how reliable the reverse head is on the newer engines. I know the old C20XE reverse didn't last all that long, something to do with making the pistons (don't know how ) ovalling off the cyclinder bores. Engines needed a rebuild after every BTCC race (unrestricted 300bhp days).

Reverse head 1.8 16v, with around 200bhp, in a stripped Corsa B shell, would be very nice indeed. More torque than a 1.6, more base power, but a lighter engine than the 2.0 16v unit.

On another note, I wonder if any road tuners have used the Vauxhall way of tuning. Using a 2.2 unit and downsizing the bottom end to a 2.0 to qualify for the BTCC. Hence why the vauxhall engines always are torquey on track.

You can fit TB to any car, most TB will fit, its just about the inlet manifold. They've been tuning the 1.8 for a fair while too, its just harder to source parts, but they've always been out there.

JR, what cars? MG Rover up till last seasons engine, but which Ford? THe Mundys?

Oh yeah, I totally agree.

I've always said that if I could 'afford' to, I would put a 1.6 16v in my car and tune (not to the same extent as you mind) that, rather than a C20XE. I don't like the idea of a car, with an engine in it that was designed for it.

Apart from a Z20LET Corsa C
