Years ago I used to go with a group of mates, they could all pound loads more than me so it was shit (had to piss about taking weights off for my sets etc) so i resorted to making the fuckers laugh during their sets.

People who look down at the young lads who come in. It pisses me off because they all had to start somewhere.

Personally, I enjoy telling them where they're going wrong and like to help them.

Never seen 1 case of that in any gym ive been too. Most of the big guys are more than happy to point me in the right direction \ spot me \ tell me different exercises etc.

You ort to go to a better gym.

Well tbh, there's one main culprit. I usually go to the gym at 5.00pm and there's this idiot who just thinks he's it. He's undoutedly on every type of gear in existance and just says cocky comments to his mates when a young kids struggling on the bench press or doing something wrong. He doesn't think to offer any advice or anything.

Personally, I think he's a cock but he's an extremely big strong cock (must weight about 20 stone and is pretty lean too) so I'm not going to say anything to him. I just like offering the beginners and youngsters some advice if they're struggling.

I do this, does that make me an arsehole? Or is it because i'm doing steady state cv and only have to keep my heart rate at a certain point and it happens to be a slow pace which an incline fast walk is perfect for?

I hate the people who think they know alot and give people advice when they know fuck all, also hate the people who look down on beginners etc. Thats not gym etiquette really though, just my pet hates.

pretty boys, who come to the gym all dolled up like they are on a night out, hair all nicely waxed, designer shorts and t shirts usually 2 sizes too small. Then they just stand around talking staring at the girls saying how they are gonna pull them, and occasionally "moving" some weights... REALLY GRINDS MY GEARS

Yes, if you are holding the bar you aren't doing it right, would you be holding a bar if you was walking up a steep hill?
I didn't say anyone was an arsehole for doing it either, i said it pisses me off.

When doing a fat burn on the treadmill ( fast walk) you are supposed to hold the bar so it can read your heart rate so you can aim for the target heart rate etc

The only thing that makes me laugh is people who can't lift weights properly...

They try and do 30kg (free weights) for example and they are swinging their whole body to move it up... instead of a slow nice controlled movement like it should be!!!

People should just lift a lower weight and do it properly!!!

if you want to know your heart rate surely it is better to strap a proper heart rate monitor around your chest rather than holding on to a bar.

quick look on the t'interweb finds;

"Problems Created by Holding Onto the Treadmill

* Turns walking into "make-believe walking" and running into "fake-running"
* Ruins posture and body alignment
* Reduces calories burned
* Reduces effects of incline
* Doesn't build balance "

See here http://walking.about.com/od/treadmillworkouts/a/treadmillhold_2.htm
also has the top 17 excuses for holding on on a treadmill.

also here http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0826/is_5_23/ai_n19493808
"If there's a cardinal sin when it comes to using a treadmill, it's not connected to what you do with your legs or feet. It's all about your hands. Holding onto the treadmill is always wrong, regardless of your size, age, experience, weight, or goals."

Granted they arn't scientific sources, but if i still had access to journals i'm sure I could find some.

I hold on to the bar to check heart rate. I don't keep hold for long though, just to keep checking.

I am however an arse hole
