I remember a topic a while ago that said give a new car a bit of stick, then change the oil...Can't remember what else? My bro pics up his Corsa VXR Tomorrow, and I was wondering what would be the best way to run it in?

To be honest, I'd expect Vauxhall to tell him what to do, go by what they say, or it might void the warranty and he'll be fucked if it does break.

On my 125 motorcross, i gave it stick for 20 miles (once warmed up) then changed
the oil, and it were full or fillings! And they recommended 350 miles before you changed it!
But yer i would give it some once warm, then change the oil after say 100 miles????

You all say hard and fast, however my boss did this with his new ST, drove it fairly hard (imo) however not boy racer style everywhere he went. Last thursday had its 15k service (2 months !) and they ruined him, said it was his fault all the stuff was bust, the gearbox was fooked etc so ended up paying stupid amounts to have it all fixed.

Well older cars years ago required "Running in" as they say to ensure a strong engine life and reliability. But personally, techology is so up-to-date now i do not think it would make to much of a difference.

Must have been driving it stupid hard to have gearbox troubles after 15k. And why would you need to cover 15k in 2 months unless your a lorry driver?

Lives in brighton, works in slough/luton/crawley, gives a lift to his mate from worthing everyday to luton, so a day he drives around 250 miles.
Then Weekend mincing...and a short trip to Germany for a stag do and the miles have racked up....He's lost most the value of his car already

What about older engines then? I'm rebuilding a C20NE, do i have to give that death for the first 20?...is it the same principle?
Will be getting put on a dyno anyways to get the carbs set-up, but gotta drive it to the dyno place and that bout 10-15 miles...of NSL Country lanes!

I drove my new car fairly gently, not much more than 3k rpm, but no labouring either or too long in high gears for 600 miles as suggested, followed by a dozen or so miles of mild to fairly hard driving, followed by two or three hard launches at Santa Pod including a couple of burnouts.

my mate was looking at buying an astra vxr from a vauxhall dealer. he asked about running it in and how u know the engines up to temp before thrashing it as theres no temp gauge. the sales man more or less shrugged

I believe on the Astra VXR there is no water temp. I'm sure someone can confirm this.
