Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has undergone surgery following a training ground accident that left him with cuts to his lip and chin.

The 25-year old Czech goalkeeper had the operation on Sunday after colliding with another player.

Cech has missed the last nine games with an ankle injury and will now miss Tuesday's Champions League quarter final second leg against Fenerbahce.

Chelsea told BBC Sport they would be making no further comment.

Cech has worn protective headgear during training and in matches since suffering an horrific depressed skull fracture in a challenge with Reading midfielder Stephen Hunt in October 2006.

He last featured for Chelsea this season in their 4-0 win over West Ham on 1 March.

----

Yeah as you do after a random accident at the training ground - you make no comments to the press

So which player sparked him then?

Also, the head gear he wears is pointless!

Do you really believe that?

I think its psychological. Personally I think it would do nothing should it happen again.

Well Im sure it must have some reinforcement in there that will make it slightly better should he be knocked on his head where he had the previous one.

And surely the psychological advantage of it would be out done by the psychological damage of looking like a knob?
