An evening course on something like welding / automotive vehical bodywork repair?

I quite fancy learning some new skillz!

Also need to get that mini out my parentals garage as its becomming a great subject of debate - when i'll get stuck into it!!

or

Ive got a welder, should I just rip into it not knowing what im doing & see what happens? Im very worried i'll make a complete mess!!

Any advice?

Id be careful welding such a nice car tbh.

Better off knowing what your doing,my mate welded up his boot not long ago and warped the panel

and my first attempt in college was shocking after 3 years of doing it in college my welding sis still dodgy looking.

Id do a course in college if i was you

Hmmmm, im really not wanting to make a mess of it as its a nice car, though time & space is a major factor here. As in ive not got much space to work around it & ive not much time before my parents who's garage its in blow up at not being able to get the use of it!!

Might have to think about selling/splitting the car unless I come up with a plan

If I done a course it would need to be 1 night a week, would probably take me months aswell to even learn the basics!!

I think ive bitten off more than I can chew with this one!!

Just practice welding some scrap together. Its how I'm learning to do it!

just do it....

buy some sheet metal.... have a play with that and you'll soon learn.

I just got stuck in with the 205, it cought fire a few times, but it stuck together LOL

S'pose.....not sure if it would be better selling as it is & forgetting about it tho!

I personally dont like the car, see it as too big a project (stuff I dont know how to do) & would rather have a nice old golf or something to play with.

what kind of welding are you looking at?
mig welding and oxy acetalyene welding has two different techniques for deing each of them

Ive got a Clarke Pro 90 Mig Welder....uses CO2 gas. Not even tried it yet tho :S

best technique with a mig welder is stop and start, kinda like a pulse, that way u dont make huge holes in the metal
practice with some scrap metal 1st thou

Yeah they can be worth a bit in good nick, generally ive seen 8-9k for one in very good nick & low miles, 4-5k fr an average looked after one with no rust! There is a cult following!! I sometimes even think if I wheeled it round to my grannys garage & stuck it away for 10yrs forgot about it i'd get good money for it as it sits, as their getting rarer.....like folk pay Łk's for scrap campervans, beatles etc.

Meanwhile back at the camp I need to decide what to do with this!!

Is there nae lock ups close by that aren't too expensive to keep it in until you decide what you want to do with it? Because at the end of the day, it seems that regardless of your ability to weld, it will be sold or stripped anyway? As folk have said, grab your welding mask, couple of bits of metal and stick the bastids together until you can do it fairly well

Its not mine to sell but I think that was the plan once I fixed it to sell for as much as poss to recoup some of Jades cash shes put into it!!

in work, i got given a welder and a fiat cinquecento with the rear rotted out.

then the intructions "patch that up, they'll be back at 5:30 for it"

thats how i learnt, also learnt seam sealer covers up a lot of mistakes too.

Yeah thrown in at the deep end often works when you need to learn something...however when its your own car............................

do your evening course

sills etc are very very easy on a min, infact prob the easiest sills ever


im doing a major restoration on one and will help if i can..

I'd be more than interested if you can do a write up....pic's etc!! Even some info on how to set up/weld panels would be extremely helpfull.

have done the sills already along with full floors, inner sills, outer sills, steps

ill u2 about sills
