Just a quick one for a curious mate.
If you have a 1.2 SXi C say that costs (under 2010 rules) £120 to tax a year, but you put a Z20LET in it (all legit, logbook and all), how much does it cost to tax?
Is it the same as the car it came out of if its a post 2001 car (say Mk4 Astra GSi = £440 a year), £185 becuase its now over 1549cc as the old rules or just £120 as that what the 1.2 engine was?
Thanks

pretty sure the cost to tax it would increase because it goes by the c02's on newer cars. So I would have thought when you get the changed log book back the c02 reading listed would have increased to whatever the new engine produces. it will then probably fall into a different price bracket.

might be wrong though mate

What if you put on the new engine size but not the new CO2 rating/engine code on the log book?
Tbh, how the fuck are you gunna know the CO2 emmisions for engines lol. And are the DVLA gunna know what a Z20LET gives out.

Isn't the point that all post-2001 cars have the emissions recorded? Also, don't you have to give more details than just the engine displacement when registering it?
Or may be it's then classed as a kit car

Why is he most likely to keep it after doing an engine swap??Most ppl cut theyr lossed after a few months and sell them on.Not every1 gets debted up to the eyeballs and needs to keep a car.
And its not a tenner tho,its £90.
Well why did u edit it??No point in being a keyboard warrior for 10secs.

He stated under 2010 rules in his first post, maybe that's when the conversion was planned for?
BTW pow I'm sure it would be the £440 if that's what the Z-Let will be then!

Oh shut up "Corsa_Sport". You know what I mean, get off your bloody high horse and calm down.
OK, i'll rephrase the question.
FOR EXAMPLE I want to convert a 02 reg SXi C to a Z20LET. I want to keep it till well past 2010, when the new tax rules come in.
If you have a 1.2 SXi C say that costs (under 2010 rules) £120 to tax a year, but you put a Z20LET in it (all legit, logbook and all), how much does it cost to tax?
Is it the same as the car it came out of if its a post 2001 car (say Mk4 Astra GSi = £310 a year), £185 becuase its now over 1549cc as the old rules or just £120 as that what the 1.2 engine was?
If you have nothing constructive to say, don't say it. Thanks for defending my corner Ben.

no problem mate i knew what you meant.
i think it will go on the emissions given out from the car so i guess you would need a form from the MOT station or something stating that it produces 214g/km etc.
j100rsa would probably be best to ask as he MOT's cars from what i remember, but don't see him on here anymore

Another spanner in the works, what about a post 2001 car (included in new rules) with an older engine (C20LET from a 1995 cali - £185 to tax at the moment based on engine size) - like Will is doing.
I assume that will be £185?

Think so. Going on cars that had a CAT, then it's removed with an older engine, it then doesn't need an emissions test?!
