GSi has PAS, basically it's a load of dogshit.

If I wanted to change to a normal un-assisted rack do you have to change the columm as well?

Superb.

Thinking about it I suppose it will be the same setup as I had on my Nova X16XE without the PAS.

Where did you get you rack from mate? It's just it's going to confuse the arse off the parts person when I say I want a manual rack and take back a PAS rack to reclaim the surcharge.

just disconect the pas pump, and pipes..

fit some screw's to the holes in rack left by them..

then you got a nice and cheap quick rack

pas rack is less turn's lock to lock than a normal rack...

basically, just running the liquid rack dry, iirc broster did this with his, so may be worth asking him...

it'll be heaver than a normal rack, but being an ex nova ower, im sure that wont matter much, as it's only when parking you'll notice it, when on the move it should be ok

another option, if you dont want pas but still want the shorter lock to lock, is to use an epas rack, as that's a dry rack, but has a closer ratio..

also, if you dont like that hevay-ness, you could alway fit an epas colum in the future, see how it goes without it first etc

I'm going to remove the pump at the weekend, is there a specific way to remove the fluid from the rack?

You have been a lot of help.

Yeah when you remove the PAS pump does it effect the tensioner? They are self tensioning the widebelts aren't they?

Excellent. Just means there is a lot more room in the engine bay and the steering feels a lot better out on track.

PAS on a Corsa out on track is pretty hopeless.

the PAS rack is a "quicker" rack than the non-pas, so i just removed all the pas hoses then got some caps to blank off the pipe work, job done!

you will need to get a shorted belt, my setup there will be totally different to what you use so its just a case of measuring it the lenght with some string and then putting 6pk for a 6 rib belt in front of it..... if that makes sence!

I'm so glad you replied. So just pull it to pieces, remove the pipe work, change the engine mount to a non PAS mount and cap off the holes in the rack left by the pipes.

you dont even need to change the mount, i kept the standard mount but cut the pas bracket off it, i did this as the non pas mount would interfear with the dry sump pump, but if you dont want to spent money this is an easy option...

Spot on son, did the fluid just leak out of the pump once you removed it all? And what caps did you use?
