I've just been on one to work out my MPG (obviously)

I've currently done 60 miles to £10 with 1/4 tank left ( ) so I hazard a guess that i'll do about 90 miles, atleast. Now, this is working out to be 44MPG

That can't be right, surely?

Edit - hi Deano

That's an awful lot of guessing.

Whats up with 44 mpg?

Sounds a bit iffy that mate. My 1.0 will do 80-90 to £10 driving it normally. Are you driving it hard or something?

But not everyone earns £0000's everyweek buddy

Best mpg thing if you are botherd.

Fill it up. drive. fill it up again and see how much it took.

Divide the litres by 4.54

Divide your miles by your answer to the above!

I bet you are giving it some tho - its your new car!

What people claim to get and what people actually get are normally 2 totally different things.

I've never managed to get anywhere near the mpg's people claim in any car driving normally.

You are still guessing at too much though.

Fill up, do some miles, fll up then work it out.

How am I guessing too much?

I've done 60 miles, with 1/4 of a tank left. So I put 90 miles in, and it came up with 44 MPG. They're meant to get 62MPG Average. I'm now just wondering why those claims are so far off?

I'll just have to see what i'll get in total

You're guessing at how many miles you'll get to 1/4 tank and things like that, you'll never see 62mpg average, 62mpg is driving like deano.

You can do it after ten mils if you want! The fuel gauge is a bit dubious on a corsa so i wouldnt bother with that unless its pretty full.

Fill, drive for abit, fill again and work out!

What you need to do is run it right down until you are scared to go any further, then brim it to the top and keep the receipt which shows the litres on it, and make sure you take the mileage when it gets down to the scary level again. Then work out as above.

It all depends on where you are driving - if you are on the motorway sitting in 6th (does it have 6th?) then no reason why you wont get 60+mpg, if you are round town you will get nowhere near 60mpg. Same with my Astra, book MPG for motorways is like 48 - 50mpg I think, yet when I did as above i was hitting 60MPG, even though I wasnt hanging about

You called?

Litres * 0.22 = gallons.

Miles / gallons = MPG.

Wait until you next fill up, fill up to the brim. Drive. Next fill up, fill up to the brim. This is the amount of litres you used on your drive.

tbh, you should get 50mpg minimum on it I'd imagine.

Was mph supposed to be mpg deano?

If so how do you know, from reading inflated claims on forums?

I've had one and didn't get 50mpg.

Yeah, I did mean MPG, thanks for the heads up

I've heard people say both about them.

I've said it once and I'll say it again, it depends how you drive it. Driving a 1.3CDTi diesel at 85mph isn't going to return good MPG. Driving any car at that speed won't.

Seriously, unless you drive like you deano they don't get anywhere near the claimed figures, although yes it is possible to get them.
