My car has been sitting in the ( rather cold ) garage for a few days where I have not been around, went to start it today and machine gives a loud clicking noise?
This is a video of it:
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=t_CoP70IHmk
Im clueless when it comes to cars so if keeping the key in the ignition trying to get it started was the wrong thing to do then sorry
Im guessing I simply need to get some jump leads hooked up to another car to get it going, but didn't think the headlights or rear lights would come on ( which they did ) if it was a drained battery ??
Appreciate any help

It might have enough to turn the lights on, but it takes more power to turn the engine over which it proberly hasnt (without looking at the vid)

If it's clicking then i think you'll find its the starter motor. May be wrong but thats what mine did when the stater motor went.
Give it a bump start and leave it to run for a few mins then try starting again. If it's a flat battery then it'll turn on again.

Just jump/bump start it, you may need a new batt though as it shouldnt die after a few days unless its knackered or you have a drain.

I only changed the starter motor roughly 11 months ago so hoping its not that
Thanks very much for the intellectual video comment whoever it was

Just had a brief google search and appears to be that usually the best case is to get a new battery. Cheers

Listening to the vid it sounds like it could be the starter slipping aswell. Have you got a volt meter?

Yeah that was my plan to be honest thought it would need a decent drive after sitting there in the cold for a while.

it cant be:
it was turning at first but very slowly.. then it was only clicking when he drained the battery by trying to start the car..
its a battery or u got bad earth.. try jump starting it. if that will not work, try checking the earth wire to the alternator..
mine loosened its self once..
have u got an alram or amp? it could be the case that amp isnt switching off completly or even stereo light stays on even when switched off.

As said above; Flat battery. Its the starter solenoid making the noise as there isnt enough juice to turn the starter motor over.

Starter motor on corsa or golf NEVER made that noise when the batteries were flat. Only heard that noise on dad's golf when the starter chewed itself.
Apologies Joel

Either its just me, or thats clicking WHILE still turning over
either way, its the wrong sort of clicking IMO to be just battery related...
