My bro was at work and his mate was sick he needed to get home but was so ill he felt he couldnt drive. so my bro said he didnt really want to but he decided to drive him back (only a few miles away).

On the way home they got pulled for a spot check and as my bro had no other insurance he wasnt insured to drive his mates car. they towed the car away and now my bro has to wait for a letter and a court summons. what is he expected to get for driving without insurance? the police said hes likely to possibly get 3points and a fine.

Makes me sick that his mate couldn't be arsed to pay £10/15 to get a taxi and now my bro will probably end up with points meaning that his insurance will raise about £400+

Obviously he shouldn't have driven his mates car - but still...

What do you think will be the most likely outcome?

Driving with no insurance is usually 6 points and at least a £200 fine. - I know a few dodgy fookers that have been caught out.

i got done doing something similar. i think its 6-9 points. depending on judge, court, circumstances, what he pleads, etc, etc it could be 6 points and a fine but he could get up to 9 points. i got 8 points and a £240 fine. best thing he can do is plead exceptional circumstances eg needs his licence for work, other people depend on him, etc etc and they'll probably let him off a bit easier. hope that helps mate

depending when he passed will he not have to take a re-test?

to be fair, it is his fault no matter which way you look at it.

The court will more than likely through out the other case for his mate letting him drive the car.Meaning he will get off with it and your bro will get fuked.

He is looking at 6 points and a £200 fine.

Higher insurance premium from now on.

He should have just gave his mates name and got him to produce later

That happened to a boy and girl I know. Was 6 points for each of them, as he gave her permission to drive the car.

I fail to see how his mate relied on your brother

Its is just as easy to turn round and say im not insured on your car, get a cab. Is it not

Face it, your brother made a stupid mistake and got caught end of. Should have thought about the consequences before he took the action

- To get him home...

- A question I have already asked him, apparently his mate's car is fairly new and didn't want to leave it there...

- I have already said that yes he shouldn't have driven his mate's car to take him home and he will suffer the consequences..

Just makes me mad that my bro who helped his mate out (illegally or not) will get screwed over

How is he getting screwed over though? What he did was illegal.

The point is that he was unlucky to be stopped and because of the event he will receive harsh punishments

He shouldn't have driven the car

His mate shouldn't have asked him / relied on him to take him home

The end

He took a risk and got caught.

It's nobody's fault but his own and no matter how many excuses you make he still broke the law and got caught so he and you have no right to moan about it.

BTW how was your bro expected to get back to work if he was dropping the lad off at home? - I take it he was going to drive back to work then drive home at night in the lads car.

Short trip -

No think he was going to take it back to his house and walk home from there or get a cab / the point is mate I made this thread to ask what is the most likely outcome?

In my opinion it seems unfair that only my brother will face the consequences... people just seem to focus on that not the question I originally asked

He's looking at £200 and 6 points minimum.

His mate can also get the same points and fine for allowing him to drive it uninsured.

It's a risk you take, unfortunately he got caught. You live and learn.....
