Some advice please...
Earlier today I saw a cat (no idea whose) entering our back garden, I was opening the patio door to 'shoo' it away as we keep getting random cats come in our garden and poo everywhere, anyway our two greyhounds woke from their slumber in the living room and spied the cat outside...
The two of them went for the cat, each taking a turn in grabbing it in their mouths and shaking it or whatever it took me probably 20 seconds before I was successful in making them leave the cat alone.
The cat eventually escaped over a 6ft fence in our back garden but I have no idea if it's OK or not (had a look over the fence when I managed to put the dogs back indoors but couldn't see any sign of the cat in anyone's gardens).
Our dogs meanwhile have scratch marks all over their faces and one has a slightly open wound on her muzzle (but not bleeding any more).
I spoke to my other half about this on the phone earlier and we're gonna knock on a few people's doors around here that we know own cats to find out whose cat it is, but I'm just wondering what happens in these sorts of situations. In case we get confronted by an abusive cat owner, can they have our dogs put down or anything?

can't help you with your question sam, but if anyone comes round tell them how would they feel if your dogs wondered freely through your garden, its their fault for not keeping their cat under control like you do your dog.
I love cats, more than dogs tbh, but it pisses me of how its "okay" for a cat to wonder into your garden and shit everywhere, if you dog was doing the same people would moan.

Thing is on our street quite a few people own dogs (including someone that owns a terrier which keeps escaping because their owners CBA mending the holes in their fences  ) although we are the only people with greyhounds LOL...

I wouldnt worry about the cat tbh - its fault for coming onto your property.

Methinks we need to invest in some cat deterrents for our garden (I know our greyhounds are deterrents but I dont want to start scooping up bits of dead cat from our garden in the future LOL)...
I suppose we could put their muzzles on before we let them out in the garden but I don't see why we should have to resort to that IMO.

i agree mate you shouldn't in ur own garden as said if a cat is stupid enough to go into your garden when it knows theirs 2 big fuck off dogs their it serves it right.
im lucky tbh as no cats come into my garden as their scared of my dog

We used to let our dog out if we saw any cats (which was often as our ex next door neighbour was a freaky cat lady with about 20 cats!) - used to be great exercise for her!

She still goes mental now and acts like a puppy if we mention the word cats - which isnt that good for her considering she is a old dog now with dodgey back legs!

Nah ours never really got one properly. Clipped a few and had a mouth full of fur, and cornered them plenty of times and just stood there looking at them

i borrowed my ex's air rifle a few times to take pot shots at out next door neighbours cats, never hit any though
only when they came in our garden, i wasnt just trying to shoot them for fun

we always used to think it would never do much if it actually cornered or caught one. but one day a while back it got a pheasant and killed it so now I'm not so sure

If my staffie was as quick as a greyhound my street would be cat free.
I wouldnt worry about it mate. If your worried, keep your dogs in the house until the wounds heal up.

Well for now I think I will just make sure I am outside with them everytime they need to go to the toilet.
Might have to take one of the dogs to the vet's tomorrow as I'm a bit worried about one of the wounds:

theres nothing the cat owner can do as the cat was on your garden, but just wash your dogs wound every so often with warm salt water until you can take it to the vets

tbh, in this day and age, I'd be very wary about approaching any residents/neighbours, as they could turn your dogs into the authorities, your property or not.
That is like saying a viscous dog bits the postman's hand that inadvertently comes through the letter box, but is ok because the dog was in the house.
I'd let it go this time, get the dogs seen to and then invest in cat deterrents.
May be the Vet can give you advice on where you stand?

Cheers, I washed their wounds with warm soapy water earlier but I'll try the salt water method you suggest.
Marnie (the one in the pics) she's a bit scared of going into the garden now
The other dog (Banjo) had a piece of the cat's nail embedded in her ear

tbh, as much as the dogs are hurt, the cat could be worse off. I'd be inclined to keep quiet this time round.

Thing is we don't know who's cat it is anyway, there shitloads of people in our area that own cats (as well as dogs).
