That was common knowledge from the day after he crashed. What wasn't common knowledge was the things he was supposedly doing with the helicopter at the time.

Copied from a tabloid rag so take it with a pinch of salt;
THE chopper reached speeds of up to 172mph moments before the horrific fatal smash
IT SKIMMED trees and hurtled from side to side
McRAE SPED over farmland just 155ft above the ground
HE SMASHED into trees at such force that the impact propelled wreckage 150 metres
McRAE had tried moves only military pilots are qualified for

That speed is stupid, i bet his chooper could not do close to that.
Just googled it lol,
Never exceed speed: 287 km/h (155 knots, 178 mph), No pilot in his right mind would go anywhere near the never exceed speed.

Even an adrenaline junky like McRae? He died doing something he obviously enjoyed, it's just a shame other people suffered as a result of it.
Still it doesn't take anything away from what he did with his life even *IF* all this was true, and it wasn't just a tragic unavoidable accident.

There is adrenaline junkie then there is the blades going to quick and the engine stalling and you dying.
Would be the same as driving in a rally knowing removing your brakes beforehand.

makes me sick to know a kid died whilst he was being irresponsible.
fair enough do it when your alone, but not when you ave your kid with you.

With his kid and his friend in there? Im not sure any adrenaline junky would take that risk.

I think maybe a couple of swoops [whilst fully in control - cosmo] to show off to his kid and kid's friend
But I don't think by any means he willfully put his childs life in danger by flying like a knob tbh
There's gonna be propaganda all over this now,it was a tragic 'accident' and In my opinion an "In date" piece of paper would not have made him any more competent at flying a helicopter than he already was.
Accident, And I dont think it should be dragged up all the time, crash investigators are just clutching at straws as they still have and I quote "No idea what happened on the run up to and including the cause of the crash"

You claim he did something wreckless - and then have a go at those doing the same thing?!

if someone came online saying he'd just crashed his car with all his mates in and doesnt know what to do to make sure his parents dont find out because he doesnt have a licence yet, you guys would probably call him a worthy candidate for capital punishment
