Hey guys...whilst my 360 is getting fixed (red ring 3) i got thinking...

I've got a 50" LG and i just run a HDMI cable from the Xbox to it.Now i don;t think the picture quality is as good as it could be This might be because the screen is so close when i sit at it..about 7 foot away or i'm doing somthing wrong??

I've seen online you can buy a black box with connectors that boost the signal to get the desired 1080 or is a HDMI lead ok and i've already got the best out of it??

Cheers

HDMI is the best you get.

What tv do you have?

You would have to sit further than 7feet away from a 50" to get an amazing picture, I think it's around 12 feet for a 50" iirc.

Disagree entirely.

We sit less than 8 foot away from a 60" and it could easily go bigger. The picture is superb. It gets better moving away but you could say the same with anything!

I have a 50" and I sit about 7-8 feet away and I notice a vast differnece the further back I get, it's still a great picture but could be better. I read somewhere that the recommended viewing distance for a 50" is 12 feet.

The tv might not be 1080, that's why I was trying to find out the resolution.

Sending 1080 then the tv having to downscale could make it look wierd as well.

yeah never thought of that, you sure the tv is 1080p if its not set it to 720p.

Might even be less than 720, can still get plasmas that are 1024x768 that would probably give you a funky picture if downscaling from 1080.

Or read the posts above and find out that that could be the wrong setting.

My PS3 runs 720p and my 42" plasma is 1024*768.
The result is superb! My viewing distance is 5-6 feet.

The optimum viewing distance for HD is 3 times the screen size.

However is should still be seriously sharp with no artifacts at much closer distances.

That's what i meant John...

I didn't really KNOW i was getting the full 1080 by just using a HDMI lead from the box to the TV because of the not so perfect picture When it get's back from being repaired next week i'll have a proper look into it

You may also want to consider, that far from every game supports 1080p and will thus be upscaled!

And upscaling is bad, m'kay!?

Has the xbox changed since it first came out?

I remember at the time there was a lot about it not really doing anything at 1080, it's rendered at 720 then upscaled.

As said, I used 1080p for ages on my 360 and I wasn't that impressed... then I messed around with the settings on the TV remote, and it set it to 1080 native and the image was 100x better.

The whole time the signal was being sent to the TV as 1080 but the TV was downscalling it because of the settings. Check this before you do anything else.

I can't seem to find anything in the TV settings to change the settings to 1080 or otherwise

Maybe it can't be changed?
