£250? hope it has low miles lol.
Might be wrong but the X16XE is the newer engine and is an ecotec which is better, like I said I might be wrong.

I was told i was buying a C16XE went all the way to fucking liverpool to buy it got it home and remembered someones post on here about the engine code stamped on the block, looked and the engine i bought is a X16XEL and not the 115bhp C16XE i was told i was buying which would have been worth the £250 and 300 odd mile round trip (that my mate happily drove me) and now the guy wont give me a partial refund never mind give me the £ back if i give him the engine back, i don't want an X16XEL and it's not what i paid £250 for

Yep, the C16XE has a black plastic inlet manifold and an air flow meter (AFM).
The X16XE doesn't have an AFM, and has a metal upper inlet manifold.
The X16XEL also doesn't have an AFM, but has a different metal upper inlet manifold:
The X16XEL has a little less power than the X16XE, but a bit more torque as it was fitted to the heavier Astra and Vectra.

Yea, ecotecs are the better engines i wouldn't be so pissed off if it was an X16XE but an X16XEL the way tom describes sounds really shitty.

Also the X16XEL i bought has an AFM (wasn't attached) a black plastic inlet and the biggest ECU i have ever seen but it has X16XEL stamped on the block next to where to gearbox mates up to it

But sorry to say this but the X16XEL manifold looks alot different from both the X16XE and C16XE so I would of thought something was up then and checked the engine block number, not alot you can do now because u didnt check it.

Could be a C16XE inlet, ECU and loom, just running on an X16XEL block?
They are interchangable and as far as I'm aware all 3 blocks were identical

Perhaps its an X16XEL block then, and C16XE head with C16XE inlet and ECU system?
Which of the above inlets does it have on it?

Ahh ok, it appears it is a hybrid as I said then - the X16XEL bottom end, with the C16XE head.
