Or to be more precise Bowens, D300, BMX.

Havent been out with the camera in fucking ages but decided i best get some practice in before the wedding i have in may. Went out with Andy and Ben. Andy brought his new £1,100 bowens light set up which is crazy good.

Had a good day, it was really cold. Might update with some more later.

Yeah no worries.

One that day we had 2 Bowens Ring flash lights set up (one wirelessly, one with a sync cord), i also had my SB-800 on camera to provide some fill light.

You basically set the camera on manual and set it up to expose the scene. Then you set the power on the lights and your flash to light the rider. I think on that day i was shooting at 1/250 at f11 (couldn't shoot any higher on the shutter speed due to the way the lights work).

The lens i used for most the shots was a 10.5mm Nikon Fisheye lens. Although the portrait ones were shot with my 18-70mm kit lens. With the fisheye you have to actually get closer than what the photo looks like if you get what i mean. For instance in the 2nd shot it looks like i am standing quite far away from the rider but im actully holding the camera out and shooting freestyle to get as close as poss (otherwise the rider wouldn't be the focal point).

Its pretty tricky as i have to guess where my focus point is as im not looking through the viewfinder and a guy on a little bmx isnt exactly a massive thing to aim for. Plus the guys arent slow so you have to be quick and as the lights are quite slow at recharging for the next shot you only get one shot per jump so you got to pick the right moment to shoot all while guessing not even looking through the viewfinder. Its tricky to get used to but you can get some pretty sweet stuff by doing it.

All in all we had nearly £4k worth of equipment being used there so im glad we got some decent shots that the riders and others have liked

Hope that gave you an insight into all the shit we do to get these shots

Its just about exposing it all correctly. We set up and i got Andy to stand on top of the jump while i set the camera and lights up to expose it all right. Once i had it then i just left it at that and it only needed small adjustments as i moved around the different positions.

Its really just about practice at the end of the day this is the third time ive done a bmx shoot and the pics have got better each time (although this was the first time ive worked with lights shooting bmx)

For instance first time i went out best i got was:

then 2nd time i got:

and then the ones you see above. Just keep practicing and learning is the best advice i can give (oh and spending :lol; )

Same as most of the above shots Graham. 10.5mm Fisheye

Or do you mean the last shot on my first post? If so thats my 18-70 kit lens @ 18mm, very very slightly wide angle.
