i've narrowed my car search down to either

- E36 328i coupe (97-99) or
- vw corrado 2.0 16v (94 or 95)

both choices would be modified with coilovers + wheels

what are peoples opinions on these?

the corrado will be on par (i would've thought) with my 1.6 sport, whereas the 328i would be alot quicker... i had looked at VR6 corrados but the fuel economy is just ghey!

opinions? any other £2.5k (ish) coupe suggestions?

cant be much difference in fuel economy between the vr6 and the 328, my mates old 328 msport coupe was very thirsty.

i've read that mpg of the 328 isn't any different to the 325 - which is around 25-30 (ish)

the 328i appeals because a few mods and a remap = 230bhp

i have major love for corrados too tho.

then your going to get same or less mpg as the corrado mate.

corrado's can look sweet though and will hold there money if you have a tidy one, especially a vr6

i've found a nice 2.0 16v corrado which ticks all the boxes apart from performance...

i'm not looking for something ridiculously quick, just more fun than my 1.6 sport tbh

the 'speed' of the 328i appeals and i tend to drive pretty sensibly normally so should get an ok mpg out of it (i think)

vr6's are juicy as f*ck - that's what i've been told. (i.e. no more than 20mpg lol)

well those 3 series are mechanicaly good but the interiors seem to fall apart.
corrados are better made but more dated.
but if you have £2500 theres loads of cars you could have! does it have to be a coupe?

i'm after something that just needs slamming on a nice set of wheels to be honest.

i don't really want anything jap or french - i want something which doesn't scream 'boy racer' ether lol

all these replies and everyone has missed the most important point.

The bmw has the correct wheels driven!

My family have had 4 e36 bmws, 3 of which where 328i! Interior is not flimsy at all? Not immune to problems like any cars. My mums coupe had throttle issues and the trip computer went.
My dads touring blew the bottom end when it was 6months old but everything was warrentied obv.

Did 75k in the new engine, never missed a beat.

Dont buy the corrado

Wasn't the Corrado one of the best handling cars of its era? Love the looks too but its got to have a G60 or VR6 under the bonnet

i'm torn because they're completely different beasts...

corrado is slow but something like this is pretty timeless:

e36's are 'quick' and can look awesome too:

i'm pretty much 50:50, although the 'rado is more of a 'classic'. hmmm

what sort of mpg is likely from a 328i jambo? better than a vr6 right?

i've been looking at late 328i m sport's - a lot of car for the money imo
