Don;t seem to, no. With rapidshare (unless you get the link to the original post with all the separate links) then its impossible to tell what file is being downloaded anyway. Theres also two rooms in the language lab, one you have to log on with username and password, the other one you dont (although the whole area is controlled access with a card swipe) so you can even download almost anonomously. I uploaded planet earth in HD to rapidshare, half of it to my account and the other half to my mates account, and the links being downloaded gives us enough points to get continuous free premium membership too I can download 20GB a day if I want with no problems (ie. 1080p HD rips)

At Lincoln Uni we have posters up everywhere (in uni flats, every lecture room with internet access, the library, even in hotspots) warning legal action will be taken against people caught doing it

Plus the speeds are shit anyway, when its quiet you only get 500kb a sec I think

You'd of thought a sophisticated network in a Uni would be locked down in a way to prevent this type of traffic TBH

I'm thinking that my account had more limitations put on it based on my degree. I.E I was more likely to do this sort of thing

I never saw those sort of speeds!

It's http traffic, I don't know if it can be blocked at all.

I'm sure there are ways. I'd say URL filtering, but i know you'd just come back with "what about proxy's?"

I sure there must be a system out there which allows you to quota bandwidth to local I.P's and have it flag up with one downloads or uploads rather a lot.

Anyway....who cares? i'm just suprised nothing has been done about. If it happened on the network i manage...i'd make sure it didnt

Which computers did you use though doug, and did you use a download manager? I dont usually get more than 3MB/s on normal file downloads unless you use a manager that opens more conections.

I'm guessing you already have the links in 'Free Download Manager' on your external drive and then just go into uni?

At halls we'd get 2megabyte/sec download through HTTP.
Just used a Usenet service at the time which had a HTTP front end for downloading. Downloaded shit loads without them ever saying anything.
In the 2nd year, I'd use the wireless in the computer labs until we got the connection in our house sorted.

Nope. tehparadox.com is blocked, but strangely tehparadox.com/forum isn't, so I can still browse for stuff too! Or just use google to find the links elsewhere, like in the case of Shameless that I was DLing in HD
