I used to be a little bit into it.

All I have at the moment though is:

Sony STR DE485E amp reciever (could do with replacing as its fairly old)
Mordaunt Short MS904 floor standers with spikes
Samsung LE32R74BDX LCD TV
Gale XL189 speaker cables
Cambridge Audio Opitcal cable
Cambridge Audio Component cable

Used to have the complete surround sound MS package, but sold it on as it wasn't practical for the space I had.

Marantz Amp SE
Marantz CD SE
Marantz Tuner
Mission DAC
Mission M71 Speakers

(used to have Castle Howard S2 speakers but were too big when I moved into my own place)

Toshiba LCD 46"
Cambridge Audio 7.1 Amp
Cambridge Audio Upscale and DivX DVD Player
Yamaha 5.1 Speakers

Now a Media Center PC with Blu-Ray

All work and sounds great, would love to upgrade speakers as I have Yamaha A1 7.1 Amp at home and Mission setup, but too big for my flat lol so its currently setup in my dads garage for weekend fun!! Until I get my house next year with any luck, then will have TV/Home cinema room

I've recently upgraded from a NAD C350 to a Cambridge Audio 840A amplifier, with a Sony CDP-XB930 fixed transport CD player.

This amp is the best I've ever heard, it goes so loud without distorting.

Speakers would usually distort before the amp!

I can't even turn my amp up half way through fear of the speakers blowing a hole in the walls Need a bigger house!

How are you liking the A28? Heard that it lacks a little down at the bottom?

Did have a Denon (PMA250 amp etc) & Mission 760 (last of anything worth while from mission) setup but got rid of that a few years back.

Currently on the hunt for Cyrus 3/5 Pre & Power Amp setup for some B&W 601s (although have my eye on a pair of CDM1s), as i'm currently playing everything through a pair of monitors which are a little harsh on the ears for long periods.

Would obviously like a Krell/Naim setup but perhaps save that for when i'm on a few bob

The A28 is excellent IMO, I was originally going to go for the A18 but the 28 is leaps and bounds better and is easily worth the extra £300. I find it does maybe lack a little a low volume, but comes into it's own when you crank it up. Seems to work very well with my current speakers, although it sounds awesome with the 683s which I will be buying asap unless I am impressed enough with the CM9s to justify the extra £700 on them.

i agree, the £1.5k (think they're around that price) is a little bit of a sting but still, they're apparently the dog bollocks (need to get myself a demo of them)

I nearly went for the B&W 600s but the Linn's had the better WAF, plus they do sound rather nice

My current setup:
- Linn Komponents (110s @ Front, 104s @ Rear, 106 Centre, and 120 Sub)
- Arcam AVR350
- PS3 for SACD/DVD-A/Bluray playback
- Windows 7 MediaCenter (24/192 over SPDIF and loads of FLACs )

Still doesn't sound as good as my bro's DSP-A1 and Meyer Sound HD-1 monitors :'(

My setup is more home home cinema than hifi but still sounds good. I got the Bowers & Wilkins MT20s, and the Pioneer VSX-1015 amplifier.

Meyer's are golden! Just a shame about the price tag, especially for nearfields
Although i can see why he's chosen them, aren't they tiring on the ears? After a days work in the studio i find my ears are a little 'battered' and i have yet to find a monitor that's easy on ear for long periods (perhaps i need to get a set of Meyers ). It's the main reason why i want a decent hifi setup to replace my currently music listening on a pair of KRKs, it just gets tiring after a few hours.

I'm guessing he's got a 5.1/7.1 setup if he's using the yamaha (the meyer's running balanced? ) If he's big into his stereo i would recommend to demo a Lavry DA10 to hang off his transport, currently demo'ing one in the studio and it is pure bliss

He's a classical sound engineer

They deal with Meyer a lot so got a pretty good deal I think. I find them pretty easy on the ears (maybe you should try some out?!), although I've never listened to them for hours on end.

Does the DSP-A1 have balanced outputs? Never really looked at his wiring to be honest...

Yeah, was just curious to why he went with monitors as they aren't that common in the stereo market - but an engineer after an AV setup and getting a good deal on them, would explain that

I had a BBC radio engineer talk to be about them (after explaining the BBC have just replaced his custom BBC monitors, from the 70/80s, with Meyer's) and he was saying that they aren't that well known in the industry and are some of the best monitors he's ever heard - which is saying something from a BBC engineer as they are some of the best in the industry.

Still though, it must have been one hell of a deal considering they are usually £2.8k each

(and yeah i doubt it is a balanced connection between the yamaha and his active meyer's, only ever seen balanced XLRs on top end HiFi gear like Krell etc)

drunken - i would think they are multichannel outputs/pre-outs (like your pioneer) from the decoder stage (also likely pass the preamp stage for volume/tone control) for use with power-amps/mono-blocks (or active monitors in some cases).

Nice room I'd like to go for a home cinema room too but I don't really watch much TV so it would be a waste! Cool for Xbox though..
