Right, xa0s (Luke) on here has a 1.2 8v Smoke Grey Corsa. After a random late night conversation we decided to go halves on funding making it into an XE. Mostly going to be a trackday car but it's going to be road legal too as transporting it would be a nightmare otherwise.

Shell doesn't seem bad, but we have plans and have already decided on a colour scheme, should look quite nice we think, lol.

This isn't gonna have lots spent on it, it's gonna be used and abused mostly and is just generally a bit of fun and to gain a bit of experience. I also haven't done any real work on cars in over a year and loved stripping it yesterday despite the many cuts and bruises I now have.

Anyway, the car in question:

Not perfect but serves the purpose we want. Had a slight front ender at somepoint so will need a couple of bits to sort that, but no big deal.

These are old photos from when we stripped it but I thought I'd put them in anyway.

Sunroof which is annoying, but perspex will be put in to cover that.

All that weight!

And now back to yesterday, when I towed it to where we'll be working on it.

1.2 8v lump.

Still got to get all the sounds out and dash will be removed to make things easier to access.

Exhaust removal, I kept getting rust in the face, not very nice.

How it's left.

Just a few pipes to remove and it's ready. Driveshafts, linkage, exhaust all removed so the harder bits are out the way. Just need some bodies to help lift the car over the engine when we drop it as we don't have a crane yet.

Anyway, I'm sure more updates will come soon I hope, quite looking forwards to doing this!

We'll buy the other one out if it happens. It ain't like we're going halves on a Lambo track car!

Good fun yesterday, now for the harder bits. Not looking forward to sound deadening removal but gotta be done!

Is that an 'in' joke? Seen it popping up all over the forum!

Exactly, not like it's an uncommon conversion Just doing it for a bit of fun and experience. I always regretted not putting a Redtop in my white Corsa so this is my chance. Hopefully be able to add a few different touches to make it more interesting.

Oh right ok well we think we've got hold of an XE pretty cheap atm so we'll see what happens with that first also comes with the mounts!

Am I right in saying that the mounts just bolt to standard Corsa mounts and line up to the redtop? Or are they identical to Corsa ones but stronger? (No idea!)

Was a long time ago but iirc the Off Side chaiss mount was different using a mk2 cavalier rubber and the gear box mount was a cav one too. Lee Mitchell made my engine mounts.

Speedlines of some sort. We've not really talked about it much. I quite like the wheels but 15's might be more suited to be thrown around a track. Will have to see.

I see Fad, I've just been told it comes with the mount conversions, but wondered why they had to be converted really, whether it was different mounting points or strength.

Thanks Andy.

The O/S mount sits lower than the original. Which makes the engine sit level. And stops the bonnet hitting it.

The other mounts normally use the original ones. Sometimes the gearbox mount and linkage need to be made longer, but often can just be used as they are.

My redtop came with mounts too! Bargainous.

I'll watch this project closely, make sure there's lots of pics!

Will do mate, you know I love a good picture

Cheers for info on mounts, I was wondering about the linkage. What's the reasons behind it sometimes needing to be longer but sometimes not?

Took the bonnet, wings, bumper, arches and everything like that off today. The whole front end is off practically!

More progress today, although looks like we barely did anything lol.

We went to the Breakers and got front and rear bumpers, all 4 arches and a wing.

This is how it was left last time:

Sunroof removed, very heavy, glad to have that out:

This is our choice of colour:

Wing and mirror painted:

Just so there's no going back on colour choice:

Taking shape slowly but surely, I think the colour is very marmite, but we love it
