Why not sort the number plate to read:

L3 0PEL?

i no its illegal but just carry spare plates. worse they can do is £30 fine. I'm doin mine like that (not same words as urs obv.)

There's no need to change the plate - those that know will read L3 OPEL anyway. Those that don't get it, aren't worth worrying about.

£30 fine, but you're also faced with the hassle of being pulled over in the first place.

Have considered illegal spacing, but like Joff says, its a reason to be pulled in the first place plus the fine and only those who know the corsa/vauxhall scene will appreciate it. Them that dont get it dont count

Although if it's done by Top Gear in Burnley, bound to be decent as they do really good work up there (ie. it's where I had mine done)
