Restricted to day-time flight in VFR. VFR means visual flight rules, basically it means that the weather has to be good and I have to be clear of cloud and in sight of the surface at all times, and that I have to navigate using a map and ground references. I can fly a single piston engined aircraft at the moment. I think that Spitfires have their own type ratings which means that I'd have to get signed off on one before I could go dog fight Messerschmitt's

I did most of it in a Robin HR200:

And I did some hours on the more powerful HR2160i:

They're great fun little things, very lively

Flyings great, mines limited to a Chipmunk though

But I always couldn't help thinking, "whilst this is fun, its no F14 "

Wouldn't mind a go in one of those REdbull Airrace jobbies, or one of the old Mustangs that are still raced in the USA..

How many hours you flown? Must have cost a fair bit?

liamC: That sounds pretty good! Better get on and get my commercial sorted

ryzer: The written communications exam is easy, you will know most of the stuff after you've done a few hours on the radio in the air. The practical test is easy too for the same reason, it's tricky because its all synthetic though as you get tested on the ground.

Etihad have a Pilot Cadet Scheme at the moment where they pay for all of your fees upfront (70k or whatever it is) and you are contractually obligated to complete a minimum of 5 years, of which the 70k gradually goes, being taken out of your wages each month. My mate runs the program.

It's been all around the globe - they did the UK one in London in February and has still a few different places to go.

I wasn't aware how good their cadet scheme was, most of the ones about at the moment seem like a right scam.

When on the cadet scheme I think the monthly salary is about a grand a month, with accomodation provided.

Going to do aerobatics training soon

Fuel consumption is 20 litres per hour, it burns Avgas which is 110RON leaded petrol I think it's about £1.30 a litre at the moment.
