Standard with a couple of manufacturer upgrades, or very subtle.

Original equipment manufacturer.
ie. made by the same people who the car is.
So anything that looks standard. Normally it's improved but in a subtle way. Sometimes called OEM+ or factory+ meaning like that but a bit better.

Its the opposite..
OEM are parts that were made FOR the car during production, they dont have to be made by the manufacturer of the car though GSi bumpers and skirts for example are not made by Opel/Vauxhall but they are OEM..

GSI bumpers and skirts are a vauxhall part no matter who they are made by.

Still not made by vauxhall though
DELL dont make hard disks but they still have their own part numbers for their OEM drives

And if I was purchasing the hard disk through dell i'd be purchasing a dell part.
Parts are manufactured by lots of companies, you don't call the part by the factory it's made though.

Definition of OEM:
"Original equipment manufacturer, the original manufacturer of a component for a product, which may be resold by another company "

i'd like to think my Corsa (Garage) was OEM, using irmy parts, perhaps not production but was 95% irmy mods and inline with "Vauxhall style"

Davey what you are trying to say is ludicrous, gsi skirts and bumpers are a vauxhall part, it doesn't matter what factory they are made in.

They are not made by vauxhall they are re-sold by vauxhall. And thus BY definition (we are both speaking english I assume) they are OEM.
Go argue with a dictionary!

I'm not arguing, by OEM we are talking about Vauxhall.
Using Dell since you seem to know who they are, Dell are an OEM, the people who manufacture the parts are seperate to this, you are 110% totally incorrect.

You are getting confused with an ODM (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Original_Design_Manufacturer) which is who manufactures the original part.
Vauxhall OEM, factory who make the part ODM.

OK so what about BOSCH sensors, if I buy a crank sensor from Vauxhall its not made by vauxhall but it IS OEM, why is that any different to a bumper?
quote: OEMs are the industry's brand name auto manufacturers, such as General Motors, Ford, Toyota, Volkswagen, Hyundai, Honda, Mitsubishi, etc. The OEM definition in the automobile industry constitutes a federally licensed entity required to warrant and/or guarantee their products, unlike "aftermarket" which is not legally bound to a government-dictated level of liability.
OEM also applies to a multitude of licensed component manufacturers, such as Bosch, BBS, NGK, Pagid, Ferodo, GUD etc. While these meet the industry definition of OEM, they are frequently called OEM Suppliers within the industry to prevent confusion with the automobile brand names. Identical products, such as spark plugs, may be supplied through official franchised dealers in appropriately branded packaging (Volkswagen, General Motors, etc). The same product may be supplied through general auto retail outlets (in the UK - Halfords, A1 Motor Stores, etc), or 'trade' motor factors (UK - Partco, Euro Car Parts, APD) in the manufacturer's original branded packaging.
OEM also refers to brands of components that an automaker uses in their particular vehicles. For instance, Mark Levinson audio is used in Lexus vehicles. Also, major tire manufacturers (Michelin, Bridgestone, Goodyear, etc.) produce a line of OEM tires that are factory-installed as standard equipment on many vehicles; these companies also produce other more expensive series of tires for motorists that want higher performance.

You are an idiot though so he has lost as soon as you agree.
I have shown you what both OEM and ODM mean, OEM is Vauxhall, or Dell, I can't believe anybody would argue the point.

So from your own definition vauxhall are an OEM?
I'm out.

YEP! When GM make parts for Opel/Vauxhall/Saab/Isuzu they are OEM supplier..
Is it really that hard to understand?
