What would be the next step when you can't get the wheel off your car.....by the title of the thread you can probably guess I'm not great with cars!

I have an 02 Renault Laguna and there is a puncture in the front tyre that I cannot get the nuts cracked to get the wheel off. It's fairly stuck, as it has had my 14 and a half stone frame bouncing on the brace to try and get it off.......

Any ideas of how to get it off would help massively!

if they are air tight by the garage you need to put abit more strength into it.the nuts will make a crack sound then they should be free...left to loosen,right to tighten

will need an air compressor by the sounds of it

or you could weld the nut on and jump on the bar until it comes loose not recommended though.

you need some length on there lol

any old scaffolding bars or anything you could slide over the top of the brace ?

yeah it was the right way - as I've always been told, righty tighty lefty loosey and all that.....

will try and get something to lever it like the scaffolding.....it's a slowish puncture so can last a bit....

Breaker bar with some type of extension will do the trick

as said, you need a breaker bar, can pick them up from £20 in some places.

are u hitting it with a shock, i find its not weight its the impact that cracks it

not hard, just get a breaker bar from halfords and thats it, give it a good yank and bobs your unkle they wil come undone not hard at all

drive to Kwikfit in morning. Tell them you had it in at another branch for a brake check / puncture check and they have put them back on too tight and you cant get them off. They will do it for you. Then get the puncture fixed while you are there.

a garage should never do the wheel nuts up 'air tight' they should be done up with a torque wrench

Very true, try hitting the bolts with a hammer. Sometimes the shock will break the seal and make it easier.

Correct. A spider's the easiest thing to use:


Put the end that fits the bolt on, put a hollow metal tube (scaff pole) over the bit you would be turning and hit the side that's pointing away from the car with a hammer repeatedly as you swing from it. Should be undone in seconds.

If it's getting bald then buy a new tyre, then lets the garage worry about getting it off

Ask them nicely & I'm sure they'll check the others for you

If you just whack a massive bar on it without any shock you're risking shearing the bolt in the hole and being left with effectively a seized stud in the hub. If you apply a bit of shock and turn it at the same time (like an air gun would) as above you'll shock it free. Happened with one of mine the last time I was getting tyres and the method above worked - after bending a foot long 1/2" drive braker bar by putting a pole over it.
