Im looking at a list of courses that im to go on for work and thats one of them.
5 days, up north, putting out fires and stuff.

Hmmm mI think this one is more focused at fire fighting.
Cant find a course content online, just that I can attent next week if I want

couple of lads on my course spent a week with the fire service doing some training and absolutly loved it. they got to do the exercises where youre in the pitch black crawling through confined spaces etc as well as basic fire fighting. Recommend it to anyone

Offshore Emergency Response Team Member 5 Days
Overview
Delegates receive intensive training in the principles of responding to an emergency as part of a team.
Structure
The course has theory elements with practical exercises and debriefs.
Prerequisites
Delegates must have an in-date BOSIET or FOET certificate. See Survival section for details.
Target Audience
Personnel who are about to undertake an emergency response role.
Course Content
The syllabus focuses on:
Theoretical
* Breathing apparatus techniques
* Closed containers
* Combustion
* Confined Spaces
* Extinguishers
* Fixed systems/detection systems
* Gas characteristics
* Hazardous substances
* Hose handling/water protection
* Pressure vessels
* Teamwork
Practical
* Breathing apparatus techniques
* Casualty handling
* Chemical incident including decontamination procedures
* Confined space rescue
* Foam equipment
* Incident stabilisations including cooling and isolation
* Internal/external fire fighting involving Class A, B and C fires
* Vessel cooling - flame control
* Internal fire fighting
* Portable wheeled extinguisher units
* Hose Reels
Certification
OPITO approved certification and OLF approved certification in accordance with OLF guidelines will be issued on successful completion of the course.
Revalidation
Every two years.
Venue
Held at Petrofac Training, Forties Road, Montrose, or at other locations where facilities are suitable, including overseas.
Items to bring
Towel, toiletries and change of clothing are required. Photographic ID
Health
All delegates will be asked to complete a standard medical questionnaire prior to course commencement and be in possession of medical form B if appropriate.
Do I want to be doing that next week Technically ive got 2yrs to do it. The other option os to sit in the house

Sounds like the sort of thing i'll be doing I think. BA on and entering smoke filled rooms, find your way out etc.
Think i'll go for it then....never know I might even enjoy it

yeah thats the one, you have a partner giving you some details over the airwaves but its pitch black, then when you fin casualties, you have to share your oxygen etc and get them out. Not good if youre scared of tight spaces like.
People I know who have done it absolutly loved it

would you not find that massively exciting though? Thats what I love about my job, you never know what youre goina get called to, and what youre goina find when youre there. The adrenaline rush is unreal, especially when going into potentially life threatening situations

I watched a programme last night on beeb which had about piper alpha in it, I can also remember seeing that on the news. So tragic really.

I've done similar when i was in the RAF, I was trained as a fire fighter on the green godesses when the firemen were on strike and also I done the emergency response stuff when I done a detachment on HMS Illustrious to Sierra Leone. Had to do fire fighting and patching holes in the ship
