trying to change abs sensor on front of corsa. for those that dont ken. you have the sensor which normally has an allen key bolt which attaches the sensor to a plastic bracket that is then allen key bolted onto the hub. so yeah, 2 allen key bolts and a plug. now to do this, you'd normally remove the bolt that holds the sensor onto the plastic bracket. i tried, the head was stripped already and i made it worse. fair enough, remove the bracket from the hub and get that bolt out later. so attach allen key onto extension then on to ratchet. begin to turn, its a new bolt so no problems here then what the hell?

the bloody bracket has snapped. the plastic fooken bracket. why? im a fit of anger i threw tools all over the place.

so a simple, really simple job has gone wrong. im quite annoyed. i need a new plastic bracket that amazingly doesnt come with a new abs sensor just to rub it in.

oh im happy.

Its always the case. Had it the other day with the bike. Went to change the front indicators and had to strip all the front of the bike off just to get to them.

And to top it all off i have to do them again as there upside down!

i aint got a clue what im gonna do. 2 choices i guess. make a bracket up out of some metal. or go scrappy and buy the whole lot and hope that doesnt break as i remove it. i only want a plastic bracket/holder thing not the sensor as ive got a new one.

thing is i need this sensor sorting for weekend as its not used for abs its for wheel speed for ecu. without it, it gets far far too much boost in the first 3 gears and makes it a nightmare to get set off.

Get a metal one made up, then put a tiny 'built not bought' sticker on it.

not good mate! Detroyed both of mine removing them last year!

I have certainly now learnt that there is no such thing as a 5 minute or quick job on a car, of any age!

yeah. its amazing how a longer more annoying job like changing a gearbox, splitting the gearbox, removing a diff, splitting other gearbox, putting diff in, sealing gearbox, fitting gearbox is a lot more straight forward. well i found it so.

abs sensors on civic gave me no hassle, nor did the gearbox. the biggest pain in the arse was fitting all the sodding wire for the stereo behind it, stressed me out

yeah old brittle plastic probably. its just such a stupid place for it to crack off. its left the hole where the bolt goes in and snapped off around that. i dont understand how either. i knew i should have just repaired the wires and not removed it from the car.

oh right.

well used to have an xe corsa a red one. it got the full mtec kit when me and mate fitted the engine. then i got the grey gsi as a 1.6 to put the turbo into. i decided to use the shafts from the red xe in the grey turbo, and fit cavvy inner cv's to the rec corsa and sell it on to a mate. this was years ago. so what i did to save time and buying new bearings etc, i just swapped the full hubs from the corsa gsi, abs sensors included, into the red corsa. then the non abs sensor hubs from the red xe into the grey corsa. thus meaning the car basically never had working abs. now its been removed altogether. unit, ecu and pipes etc.
