well today i have just been told at my part time job i got to take a 50% pay cut each month, its sort of screwed me up as im a student now.

in the last year i have gone from full time mechanic, to a part time cleaner (only cause its was better than being on benefits), and to have a pay cut on that part time job

looks like its going to be baked beans on toast for a while now

Sorry to hear that, out of interest, what are you studying and rather than clean for the NHS, would you not rather be a part of their machine? Recession doesn't affect the health care sector does it.

My Mum is quite high up in the NHS (she trains surgeons, overlooks new surgical procedures/equipment etc...) and the funding for a degree in basic nursing is really good at the minute, crying out for them.

J da Silva, im studying business and finance. no the recession shouldnt effect the public sector but it has where i worked, for an example theres one shift which has always had 2 supvisors, now theres 4 supervisors meaning that the trust has to find an extra £15k a year for them which they havnt got, thats just one of the silly new staff they have introduced.

daymoon, well they have cut my hours down to stupid hours which effects my pay, its already gone from £1350 a month to £1000, and the meeting today said that i should be getting about £650 to £750.

Not in general and specialist care, they are moving funds around as opposed to cuts, spending more in areas it's needed and cutting where it isn't.

Have they moved the original 2 staff to part time aswell as adding to their staff?

Our Health minister in wales has decided on a huge re-org in and I recently was out of a job working for the local health authority.

Luckily, I landed a job straight away working for contractor management which coincidentally runs along side the health authorities in north wales.

anyway.. long story short- this re-org meant that 6 different LHB's turned into 1 big one, which meant 5 in every 6 people were let off but at the same time meant that some people were moved to lesser paid jobs ect.

It was supposed to save money but tbh it seems they've spent more in doing all this

but introducing staff where they are not needed is pointless and a waste of money, and doesnt help when they say they got to watcht their budget.

but the again i found out last year that the top dog of the hospital took home a £30k BONUS on top of his wages

50% cut....what sort of wage were you on originally where you can have your wage cut and still be above min wage? Or do you mean your hours have been cut?

And Jiz, of course health care sector will be effected by the recession. Govt. is pumping money into the economy and needs to claw it back from somewhere. They'll not increase spending on public services as they normally would year on year, and more than likely cut costs where possible.

Sad but true tbh.

Ah right, seems a waste that, my Mum got fed up of being hauled into meetings about cut-backs, re-shuffling etc... so she veered away from the running of the wards.

All I hear is NHS talk everyday, it gets a bit much sometimes, my Mum, 2 of my sisters are nurses and my gf is a nurse aswell so when their NHS newsletters come through the post, they're straight onto the phone to each other about.

Maybe I was a little unclear Cosmo, I mean it's not a means of working that suffers from a recession, building industry suffers, house buying suffers, but you'll always get a job in the NHS, wether or not the money is rubbish, or they appoint pointless staff is not connected to my point.

The NHS should (being the word) act like any other business during a recession and become more efficient.

They wont, as the Govt. doesnt have the right control in place to do such a thing. But in theory it should act like any other business during a recession, just that they dont get paid at a till point by its customers.

I work in Public Health, there is going to be cuts in the next couple of years for sure. These will be a lot worse if conservative get it especially in spearhead areas.
