Took one out for a drive yesterday. 90k, full FVSH, digi dash etc. First time i got to really really drive one (Old man had a yellow calibra redtop, but i was only 17 when i drove it).
WEll, this engine was a cracker, very very smooth, and cracked onto 100mph well nicly. I was qutie impressed. But being standard it didn't have much kick, roughness to it.
Nice motors though. I can see why so many people love em.

140+mph Doubt it.
Calibra was one of the most areodynamic production cars ever made (was the most when it was made) and that only done 135-136mph by the book.
I doubt the astra being a block will go faster.
Like racing a Tigra 1.6 and a corsa 1.6. Same enigne, gb, chassis, just Tigras more areodynamic.

Ive got an F20 in my nova, accuratly hits 130mph in 4th gear easily. I reckon getting an extra 10mph out of 5th will be a synch (once I stick a non shafted gearbox in.lol)

or have you got raised limiter
It used to do 120mph in 4th at 6500rpm but now I can rev to 7000rpm (just started revving more one day, strange really). and now it hits 130mph in 4th @ 7000rpm. 5th Gear stopped working when I installed the gearbox, must of knocked it or something.
Previous owner said he got 145mph out of the engine when it was in the astra, Whether he was telling the truth or not I dont know, But I know it would fly to 140mph in my nova. at 120 you can put your foot down and it'll still push you into seat.

Gonna say, the only car to do that to me was Lucky Bs.
Which was slightly (just slightly) quicker than a standard 2.0litre

daimo, had the car on a roller which accuratly measured mph. at 118mph my clocks showed 120mph.
adam, nothing as far as I know. Its not a turbo kicking in style throw into seat, just put your foot down and it jolts you back, most other cars at that speed you wouldnt even know you'd put your foot down.
When my mates mk2 Astra SRi is at his max speed (book of 120ish i believe) I easily overtake it.

as far as i know. It made just under standard power on a rolling road with a shafted AFM and blowing manifold, so I assume that it would be on or around standard power now Ive fixed that.
The gearbox has got F20 stamped on it. The engine is standard as far as i know (and the power showed). Some bloke just sold me a GTE and i stuck it in the nova. I know that speedo's read incorrectly but the bloke at the rollers told me that his rollers will measure the speed of your tyres accuratly. hence why I believe im doing 120mph @ 6500rpm in 4th (and now 130mph because of the extra 500rpm).
