Alright everyone, so after two years of owning Corsa SXI's i'm looking to move on to something new, perhaps a Fiesta Zetec S (2001/02 plate)

Anyone know anything about what to look out for when checking one over, and whats good mileage for the engines etc?

Any advice appreciated

Ours was on 110k when we sold it and was ultra reliable, no high oil consumption or anything.

Rust was an absolute bastard though, I always take good care of my cars but I just couldn't stop the rust on it!! Rear arches are the worst place.

Good fun to drive though.

Heater soliniod's go
Check for rear arch rust
Depending on millage check when the coilpack was replaced
If theres a knocking at the rear when going over small bumps proberbly rear axel bushes

knocking on the back of fiesta's, 9 times out of 10 is rear strut top mounts.

My current SXI is having a case of Rust-Aids so i'm good at spotting it when it starts.

The one i'm interested in at the moment, is a W reg, 76,800 miles, FSH and MOT til April2010, completely standard, £1800, and only 20miles away.

Think i may have to make an enquiry

llower arm bushes go and you'll know as it will knock going over bumps.
front top mounts tend to go if its had a hard life.

knocking from rear is half the time exhaust hanger mounts (aka the rubber bits) but sometimes its the top mounts tend to have a little play again only if its had a hard life.

engine wise the black engine (later zetec) is the better one, they dont use as much oil, and the seals dont seem to go as much as the earlyer zetec engine.
cam covers leak like a bastard (take it off as soon as you get it and put a small bead of silicone round it and it will stop that problem.
oil pumps never go
inlet manifolds have a tendency to split (will run like a bag on nails if it has)
check around the crank pulley the sump bolts, if they are pink then it needs a water pump as they have a tendency to go on these.

coil packs go on a regular basis, but the focus/fiesta/mondeo zetec engines coil packs all fit

thermostat housings can sometimes crack and leak, look down the side of the head (gearbox end) its a black box with a load of pipes coming out of it.

then its just rusting on rear arches and thats about it

As said, the oil consumption. Check it weekly religously.

Couple of ways to tell a phase 2 over a phase 1.
No centre caps on the alloys.
Different engine cover/rocker cover.
More options for the air vents on the centre console.
