I used to go every weekend back when I was at school, I hadn't been for about 7years or so but brushed off my kit a couple of months ago and have been couple times recently. Really enjoyed it again its just finding time to take a whole day out to do it that's the problem

yes i'm a carper. i enjoy my night fishing sessions but only had 7 or 8 this year. i fished all through winter last year and it was horrible so i'm not bothering this year. -7 degrees and frozen water isn't good. although it keeps your beer cold.

im planning on going this weekend, but have monday/tuesday off next week so just going to pick the best day (from the forecast)

fished now and then when the weathers nice but looking at taking it a touch more seriously now, used to just use a pole down the local canal and pool (but has decent tench and carp in there)

but my grandad said my dads rod (aint seen my dad in about 10 years) is up the loft so i got that out the other month, its a very nice carbon carp rod and 2 decent reels (nice mitchell reel which is about 15years old but brand new in the box)

like i said i aint been doing it long, but the best fish i have caught so far are, 3 1/2lb chubb (from the canal) and 6lb pike (again from the canal) caught both on my pole as this was earlier this year before i got my dads rod..

is there any certain fish that bite more in the winter months? or are they all the same as such?

just need to wrap up walm this time of year

I used to go when I was younger, we went down the Thames and within twenty minutes we started throwing mud into the river pretending they were hand grenades.

mate at work loves it.

he's going to south of france next year to fish, hopefully catch some 30,40 or 50's.

think his record is a 21lb mirror.

Used to go fishing all the time when i was till i was about 17.

Any of you ever seen Monster Fish on sky? They did one on Carp, and they were catching like 150lb carp, took 3 people to hold it.

if you are fishing river/canal in winter mate fish like chub/barbel/perch/pike are all mostly catchable in the winter months, if your fishing lakes then carp can be caught but you will need to change tactics (fish wont be up on the surface like hot summer days etc)

if you want easy fish to catch in the winter then i would go for chub (ledger breadflake or paste or something) or go for pike (use deadbaits in winter for better results)

what depths you think chub/perch will be roughly? as its cold you think just off bottom?

I usually just trott a worm along the bottom for chub, all you need is a hook on your line.

You might find the fishing quite slow in this weather, id get some trebbles, dead bait and a massive float and go for some massive pike
