Hi guys. I read the Tutorial post on engine conversions, but I have a couple of questions. My car at the moment is a 1 litre 12v and I have a 1.6 16v ready to be dropped in. I have everything that's needed, kinda of..

The guy doing the swap says I need a different fuel tank and pump and the bracket because the original pump is too big. How true is this? Is the tutorial correct in saying I just need to change the fuel pump? Or do I actually need the tank along with it?

Many thanks..

Sorry, I think I meant the pump from the 1.6 is too big to fit the original. Sounds like sense, but just need confirmation before I start forking out more money for the items.

ideally You need the complete 1.6 wiring loom.. As for the pump you just need to change the pump its self.. AFAIK the carriers in the tank are all the same.

Big job! Easier to just buy a 1.6.

Comes with everything, including the wiring loom.

So I only need the pump.. But which pump?

Thanks Davey

So the 1.6 pump that came with the engine should be fine? What I'm getting at is that the guy says it's too big to fit the fuel tank on my 1 litre.

That true?

the 1.0 fuel pump is fine. It is mpi and all mpi fuel pumps are the same.

Only need to swap the pump if it was a 1.2 8v

Thanks. But he said something like.. because it's changing from a single point injection to multi point, it needs a different pump. Very confusing this..

Mate, he sounds clueless, the 12v is MPI and the pump in exactly the same as all MPI corsas and most MPI vauxhalls of the same sort of age.

and by the way, its a hell of alot easier to buy a 1.6 and just swap any bits you like over

that is of course if you arnt doing it for "insurance" reasons...

Could be.. But thats my problem. A few people have told me to buy a 1.6. But I haven't even been driving a year yet and I'm paying £107 a month with Tesco and I'm 27 and insurance group 10 isn't too inviting!

if your#re 27 it shouldnt matter how long you've been driving as you're an adult.
try ringing round "real" insurance companies and asking for quotes.
even adrian flux can give you better than tesco.

Might do.. But I'm thinking of just keeping it to the 1 litre engine, as its turning out to be too much of a ball ache because this guy is fecking about. And to sell the 1.6..

Sell the 1.0 when you are about to rack up another years NCB then buy a 1.6 sport.
