...You got there in the end (2 years late!).

The 787 which is the first composite airliner made its maiden flight a couple of hours back. It's an impressive piece of engineering to say the least!

So what's different about it? Does it have a Prius sitting in each of the engines?

It uses carbon composites so there are no rivets, this makes it more slippery through the air. There has been a lot of analysis of the design to make it more efficient, the most obvious is it has two massive Trent 1000 engines as opposed to 4 smaller ones because they make less drag. It's supposed to be quieter too.

I guess only time will tell though.

Its 50% carbon/plastic.
The lightest one only weighs 100 tons
It has a lot of space inside and LEDs and shit.

There are other things too, it doesn't pressurise the cabin from a bleed air system off of the engines. They wont say exactly why, only claiming efficiency improvements. But there are lawsuits going on because people are getting ill from toxic fumes in the cabin, perhaps coming from engine oil.

What's the standard seating formation of that so I can get an idea of size? 3 and 3?

It's a wide body, so it's about the size of a 777 which is 3-3-3. Will seat about 300.

True, I think it's because it only looks about as big as a 737 in most the pics. But those engines are enormous, they are bigger than the ones used on the Airbus A380!

It is an unprecedented range for a passenger plane that claims to be 20% more fuel-efficient and 60% less noisy than the model it replaces, according to Boeing UK president Sir Roger Bone.

60%? That's a shed load of noise lost, maybe now we won't need to have headphones on full to hear something.

Yea, and after Airbus said they didn't need to build a similar aircraft.

A few people have mentioned that. It's either an optical illusion due to the shape of the wings and the dihedral, or it's due to the wings being composite and curving differently to what's normally expected.
