Hey guys,
I'm looking at getting one of these go to and from uni and a general day to day car with a bit of poke. Sold my Type R as i was getting about 25 - 28 mpg with all the mods done to it so it just wasn't economical enough for the 50 mile a day drive.
I know alot of you on here have alot of VAG knowledge so really i'm wandering..
What BHP can i get it upto with bolt on modifications and a rough price to say get it to 220bhp or 260 bhp
What MPG i should expect 80% motorway 20% round town
Do they handle well ?
Sorry for the tiny picture, this is the model i'm looking at? Would get the Cupra R but would rather save the extra 2k they are.
Cheers Rob

I could see no reason to have one of these over a 182 Rob Turbo cars will fuck you over on petrol especially when modded.

Same engine as in my Golf (AUQ). It has the KO3s turbo so will map to 210-220 max which should do you a sub 15 1/4. anything over that and you need to consider a bigger turbo.
Average mpg for me is usually aboud 29 and thats with hardly any motorway. With 80% motorway you should get in the 30's easily even when mapped.
I think the suspension was the same as my golf when it was standard - nothing special but handles better than the lower classes. if you can get a set of springs on there i've heard it will transform it alot. ( -50mm springs and the shocks will cope fine as they are shortened over standard, but you may get ARB issues. I'm lower than this and mine isn't rubbing but some peoples have.)
Usual VAG 1.8t probs i.e coil packs/climate control fans.
Engine wise i've only ever had one coil pack go and thats it.
Bit of a ramble but hope it's helped in someway.

as said they will go to 210 220bhp from just a remap, a lad i know as the older model to the 1 your looking at and he said his is thirsty doing town driving,
if your doing 50miles a day would you consider a fast diesel and get it remapped?

I have a bora TDi 115 bhp now and it's boring and it loves limp mode, plus it looks like a grandad car
So was going to get a leon which is a nice 5 seater and fingers crossed out of boost i was hoping it would be good on fuel. What else is a good idea for around 5 - 6k.
I've got a 306 rallye as a track car so no need for anything like a 182, want something fast in a straight line

im sure you could get a leon cupra R 225 for the money you have got to spend your best joining seatcupra.net and ask what they are like on there
if i was doing that many miles a day i would be looking at getting a diesel

Got ur U2u rob..
For a start you need to ask on SCN rather than here tbh..
Also to get the 240bhp Mark you k03s on a stage 2 map will be fine...But if you want something for 260-280bhp then a k04 setup would be Fine Bolt on infact...
As for the fuel comment i get 38mpg on a motorway run and 29mpg around town so around 400miles to a tank

i have a LCR and im on stage 2 map its just under 300bhp and as for MPG round town i can average around 22mpg and on a long run im gettin around 27/28mpg.
Part of the good mpg is also to do with which kind of map you have done

Progressive Map: Jabbasport,P-torque,AMD
Aggressive Map: Revo,APR,Custom-code
Tbh Im going for a APR map as they are the best around tbh...Millions Spent on devolpment And Revo is basically C-C..

I have a MK4 ibiza Cupra 180T with a Revo Map (stage1 ), uprated DV, panel filter and induction pipe, i havent had in RR but guessing 220bhp.
Maps can be tailored to your driving style, as said some maps can improve mpg considerably.
As the car I think they are very good

I have a black 2004 180 Cupra, only 1 owner since new love it & I have done a few mods to it.
Cant fault it, only been through two coil packs.
Standard Cupra suspension is OK, lower than normal Leon's but doesnt handle great. Since lowering minethe car feels alot more planted & more confident when driving!
MPG isnt that bad to be honest, I get around 28MPG town driving and lots more on motorway, but I have noticed since changing it to Optimax after the first week of ownership I get more MPG
Really good engine, cant wait to get a P-Torque remap, get yourself on SCN (seatcupra.net)

Will who runs it is a lying cunt, shit mapper. Blew up 3 or 4 peoples hybrid turbo's from shit mapping and wouldn't take any responsibility. All the results after a map he does is not worth his effort (although he probably just prints it off from file anyway), they make fuck all torque but loads of bhp

I've got an Octavia VRS (same engine) and MPG varies from low 20s about town to mid -high 30s on the motorway.

Amen to that....My mate was one of them and the turbo setup they fitted and mapped was horrible..

to K04 the cupra would it just be the turbo i'd need or various other things, i'm just waying up i can get a cupra R for about 6.5 - 7k with 60k miles ish, or get a cupra for about 5.5k with 6k miles.
The cupra R is tempting, just really need to know what i'd need to do to the cupra if i want more speed.
Shouldn't really be doing this as i have a 305 rallye for a track car
Also, why are there practically no diesel leon cupras for sale!

If you can stretch it mate go for the LCR over the cupra. Much better engnine to start with, handle superb as standard for a big motor and will reach 270bhp with just a simple map and uprated panel filter.
Plus they look the nuts in standard trim, one of the best lookin cars out there imo
