http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1239325/Petrol-rise-15p-litre-Government-raises-taxes-motorists-pay-massive-debts.html

Motorists are being warned to brace themselves for a 15p a litre increase in petrol that will push up pump prices to record highs.

It will see the cost of a litre of unleaded soar from 108p to 123p - or nearly £5.60 a gallon.

Petrol will rise by 5p a litre by the spring and a further 5p by the autumn as the cash-strapped Government raises taxes from motorists to pay off its massive debts, said the Petrol Retailers' Association.

Among the tax changes planned or predicted are increases in VAT and fuel duty, the ending of the duty incentive to refiners for the production of biofuel, and tax increases in a snap post-election Budget.

Among the tax changes planned or predicted are increases in VAT and fuel duty, the ending of the duty incentive to refiners for the production of biofuel, and tax increases in a snap post-election Budget

On top of the tax rises, Britain's 33million motorists are also likely to face rises of up to 5p a litre due to increases in market costs.

Taken together that will mean a 15p rise in the cost of a litre of petrol - equivalent to 68p a gallon. Diesel will rise from 110p to 125p a litre 'setting new record highs', said the PRA which represents 6,000 of the UK's 9,000 filling stations.

Unleaded hit a record 119.7p a litre in July 2008 after oil peaked at around US $147 a barrel. It is currently trading at around $79 a barrel.

The tight profit margins for retailers would force up to 750 filling stations to close this year - 50 per cent above the recent rate of about 500 a year - hitting many rural sites on which country dwellers depend.

The PRA - part of the Retail Motor Industry Federation - said in its report that Government tax rises would account for the lion's share of the rises through the following measures:

* The Chancellor announced in his pre budget report on December 9 2009 that VAT will be increased back to its original rate of 17.5 per cent on January 1, 2010: 'This rise will equate to an increase of approximately 2.5p per litre at current fuel prices.'
* On April 1, 2010, the Government is committed to increase fuel duty in line with inflation along with a 1p per litre rise: 'If we assume zero inflation on April 1, there will therefore be an increase of 1p per litre.'
* On April 1, 2010, the Government is also withdrawing its duty incentive to refiners for the production of biofuel:'The resulting duty increase will therefore be passed on to consumers in the form of a 1p per litre rise at the pumps.'

The PRA report adds: 'Any new Government will need to raise taxation and the prospect of VAT increasing to 20 per cent has already been mooted by the City. This alone would add a further 2.5p per litre to the price of fuel.

'There is also the possibility of a snap budget post election which could lead to a fuel duty hike of 2p per litre in the autumn.'

'With all of these duty and VAT factors considered, this will equate to a 5p per litre increase in fuel prices by the beginning of April 2010 with the possibility of up to a 10p per litre rise solely from UK taxation by the fourth quarter of 2010.'

Brian Madderson, chairman of the Petrol Retailers' Association, which represents 6,000 of the UK's 9,000 filling stations, said: 'The Government is desperate for cash and motorists are an easy tax target. It will mean motorists paying record levels for their fuel.

'So brace yourselves for higher fuel costs ahead. 2009 has been a tough year for consumers and we are looking at an even tougher year ahead.'

The AA revealed recently how motorists are facing a postcode lottery of petrol prices - with drivers living farthest from a price-cutting supermarket paying up to 5p a litre more.

So why the fuck are paying more for fuel when the price of a barrel is so low compared to when we were paying high prices due to high per barrel prices?

Why the fuck should we cover the governments short fallings and mistake?

Its about the time they grew up, took responsibility for their actions and maybe sell some assets. For a start, some of the billions of pounds worth of gold and land the Virginia company own (which in turn is owned by the Royal Family)

The royal family can start with their assets then which would be a start:

Art collection - pounds 1bn;

Jewellery - pounds 130m;

Crown Estate - pounds 700m;

Duchy of Cornwall - pounds 195m;

Other property or assets - pounds 160m.

Yup, and then we can just wave bye bye to the tourist money it all attracts.

Selling that is a drop in the ocean int he grand scheme of things, tax and cut backs are the only ways to claw the amount needed back.

Great so not only does the uk lack jobs, charge rediculous amounts of tax on everything we earn and buy, give us very little interest in return for what we give them but also will now rip our pockets apart for us to actually get to work

Fucking Cunts

The last decade has been Britain's weakest period of economic expansion of any ten-year period since the 1940s, according to the research based on figures from the Office for National Statistics.

Labour lovers say the Tories were worse, the Thatcher years etc.....proofs in the pudding.

this really pisses me off fuel rises to cover all these fuck ups of the big bankers.. whilst they have mad a complete balls of the financial community we the people bail them out through the government and we see no return for it except you will need to pay more money for fuel...

if only there was something we could really do to bring down fuel prices..

think america are paying about $3 per gallon and they think they have it hard.. try living in the uk and see how long you keep your V8 trucks for
