Where are the best places to buy bags of this stuff from? Would B&Q etc. sell them?
I'm fed up with the council never gritting our road, we live on an incline and it makes trying to drive in/out of here in snow and ice a mission!

I think my dad used builder's sand on the drive the other day. Seemed to work then. Not sure if that's what it was but I think it's all we've got and that's what it looked like

often have a pile putside fot public to take some, or grit bins on streets or car parks?
are lots up hgere, most if not all hte bins are empty now mind but still a pile outside grit yard

go to the highways agency yard where the gritters fill up and tell them you want a bit to do your road. Fuck buying it.

You've got to dig off all the snow first. It's not so effective if you put it down on fresh snow, even less so if it's compacted...

We cleared our drive yesterday then decided to put grit down in an attempt to stop it freezing over night.
Found the only grit bin that actually had grit in and it wasn't being used by anyone, no one was attempting to dig their way out. So took a wheelbarrow, filled it up and gritted all our drive.
Went back to get another load to stockpile  and there was an old fart stood there waiting for us to tell us to fuck off taking the grit Just told him good luck with clearing the road on your own at your age and left him. He hasn't done anything with it, he just didn't like the fact we were using it when we didn't live on that street

I always thought that but not really sure whether its right or not. He seemed quite protective over it. My brother wanted to go back last night under cover of darkness and empty it just to spite the old fella
